Five-Pound Zucchini

Ron had brought home a zucchini that had been discarded by the side of the road the last time he walked Jett. The zucchini was huge, weighed almost five pounds.

Today I washed it, peeled it and ground about half of it, three cups worth, for zucchini bread.

The bread turned out pretty well and now I need to figure out what to do with the rest of the zuke.

I just hope it wasn’t poisonous. It smelled and looked okay except for scratches on the skin which I was able to hack off. It was almost as hard as a rock, so I’m guessing that’s why it was tossed.

We’d thought about going to an outdoor event at the Williamstown Historical Museum, but it would have cost $20. I wanted to use up the propane at some point, so we stayed home and had grilled veg burger wraps with lettuce and tomato for lunch. We also had fresh corn that I purchased the other day from the Chenail Farm.

Yesterday we participated in the weekly anti-fascist standout in North Adams. We passed on the planning meeting that followed; I didn’t want to leave Jett alone for longer than necessary.

We watched two Week Four football games. Evidently the Patriots won theirs this weekend.

Wellness Fair, Log Lunch

We breezed through the Wellness Fair at the Harper Center, then off to Log Lunch. We missed out on the entree – chickpea salad made with tahini, green peppers and seasonings, including cilantro, so not a huge loss.

I touched base with Andi later. She suggested a couple more features that I worked on while we watched tv.

Ron and Jett went for a long walk. Jett finally ate not one but two meals! He did much better today; we had only a brief shower around 1 pm.

More Rain

Jett and I went out in the rain around 8 this morning and again during a lull. I cleaned up two trumps and cut down the small peony in the side yard garden.

Ron went out a bit later after the rain had resumed to recycle three piles of paper items at the transfer station.

I’ve been working on the Remedy app in between web surfing.

Made a really nice casserole with a zuke from the garden, cherry tomatoes from a farm, onion, garlic and mozzarella topped with buttered breadcrumbs.

Jett wanted to go out around 8, but it was pouring.

Air Conditioners

Rained last night and today.

I uninstalled the two upstairs A/C’s.

Ron and I went to Walmart for my meds and to do a shop. We split it at the register – great feature.

I met briefly with Andi to go over changes and a bug and to retrieve the set of keys I’d left last week. Turns out they are Ron’s, which I’d used by mistake.

Eco Fair, Outside Work

We enjoyed yesterday’s Eco Fair at the Milne.

I did some deck work today: washing, scraping and sweeping.

Caught up with Claudine. She reminded me that we had the furnace serviced in June. I finally remembered my conversation with her son at that time about the new grandchildren. Makes sense that we’d have this done in the off season anyway.

There’s stuffed zucchini in the oven. Took a while to bake. It was delicious.

I’ve been sympathizing with the Widow Kirk. Even though she comes across as a professional preacher, I’m inclined to attribute some aspects of her performance to genuine grieving. Poor woman!

Ron raked leaves today and pulled some old hardware out of the deck walls.

Jett still refuses to eat. He escaped yesterday and ran immediately to Ben and wouldn’t stop jumping on him. I grabbed his collar; he whipped me around at one point. Tonight, he wants to play fetch. Not happening, doggo.

Put in a final Q3 order from Medline.

Cyber Seniors

We attended their presentation at the Harper Center and enjoyed loaded baked potatoes and beans for lunch.

Unfortunately, I was somewhat complicit in passing bad information. Someone asked the speaker if Apple Airports are secure. She didn’t know what it was but after Googling it, averred that if it has a password, it’s secure. I agreed with her but turns out, that’s wrong. I emailed Brian this morning, requesting that he let those in attendance know.

Ron disposed of the front yard detritus that has been bothering him. We moved the barrels to the back. That and pulling the last weed has greatly improved our house’s curb appeal.

I got the Braven connected to my iPhone via Bluetooth.

Mailed the application for fuel assistance.

We prepped corn and beans for tonight. I prepped a pile of veggies for a train wreck tomorrow: potatoes, carrots, turnips, onion, garlic, sweet peppers, beets.

Ron’s Off to the Transfer Station

Ron brought what must be close to a hundred pounds of plant detritus to the transfer station this morning.

He also picked up groceries and produce from the Food Pantry and lunches from the senior center.

Meanwhile, I raked out the driveway side area we’ve worked on the last couple of days. Found a deteriorated stump and old roots. After raking, we put down mulch.

Did a deep, long watering of the corner and deck gardens.

Jett hates his food.

No Lunch or Supper, Just Work

Believe I have the application deployment and database migration figured out. Still debugging. Unbelievable.

Sent a blurb for publication at Williams College.

Jett has been using his water bowl in my study.

Ron and I cleared more weeds from the driveway side garden. I think it’ll be nice once we spread mulch. Need to identify the unknowns to see if they are worth keeping. Lot of work.

Talked with Mirabito, sent their info request to the former owner’s North Adams daughter. Hope it’s the correct address.

Still waiting for the property tax bill so I can complete the fuel assistance application. I think I have everything else.

The poor Canon printer which has been such a great help is having problems with the paper feed. I can’t figure out what happened. Think one of the paper guides fell off and I can’t find it or even a picture of it.

Fortunately, I was able to find the cable for the Brother and switched out the printers.

Up and At’em

Up at quarter of six this morning. Jett was waiting in the hallway. I let him out, made his breakfast and eventually, mine, too.

“Down” this morning, a clue that I need to do some physical work. So, I yanked weeds from the driveway side garden.

Ron got a haircut today at the Harper Center. We are both happy with it.

We had our six-month dental cleanings and checkups today.

I think whatever idiot in the Trump administration ordered the ICE raid of the Hyundai plant in Georgia should be fired for cause.

Weeds

Noticed today that the driveway side garden is surrounded by invasive weeds. I pulled some out but more to do.

Yesterday we did a shop at BigY and saved almost $20. Later we headed back to North Adams for Covid shots at CVS. Their registration site is excellent, far superior to Walmart’s.

The CVS vaccination clinic was fast and efficient. Saw a pharmacist right away, no hassle with registration. This compares to waiting for a full hour at Walmart for the flu vaccine. Never again!

We stopped at the big liquor store afterwards. The wine we paid $14 for was available there for $7.99. I’m thinking the price might have been a mistake, it’s a lot more than that online. Must get more.

I was up early today to water, etc., and after breakfast and coffee, went back to bed for a couple of hours. Jett kept me company. He and Ron went for a walk up the hill.

We attended an ice cream social fundraiser yesterday at Wild Oats Market. Ron enjoyed the band; we sat briefly with the mother and grandmother of one of the musicians.

I had a Prime Video credit and used it to rent “I Am A Noise”. Watched half of it last night and the rest this evening.

Enjoyed corn from Chenail Farm for supper.
