Cold

Neither of us have been out much over the last several days: too cold.

This year I’ve found that it takes a long while to warm up after being out in the cold.

Today I really missed having a nice dessert so made a cobbler from canned peaches, a box of cake mix and a stick of butter, all from the Pantry.

I made some minor pricing edits on MRS but found that I’d inadvertently uploaded my local web.config so none of the database connections worked. Easy fix, glad I caught it.

Bad Stomach

Pain for hours last night. Stomach didn’t feel normal until I drank cider vinegar and ginger this morning.

Emailed with Andi; she suggested I stay put, said she’d send me some info for data input.

Didn’t do anything else today and supposed to be very cold tomorrow, below 0.

Funk Over

Yesterday I was a mess. Napped after lunch until Ron woke me up with the snow blower around quarter of five.

Noticed that it’s getting lighter in the late afternoon.

Today I ordered food from Walmart, met another friendly and helpful delivery driver. Did some chores and made a big salad and one of the Walmart pizzas for lunch.

I finally did a shower and washed my hair, went to Remedy to borrow the computer to check out the work Andi did. Also picked up shampoo at the Dollar store, mailed a check to the oil company and dropped a book off at the library. Salad for supper.

Poor Jett had piles of trump stuck to his rear. I got most of it off; it was pretty awful.

Snow, Patriots AFC Championship

We got anywhere from 9 to 13 inches with some big drifts on the deck. It’s almost 5 the day after and it’s still snowing. Ron is shoveling. Peter messaged that they had 10-12, not too different from us.

Preite delivered oil early today. The driver said he had 30 calls; we think there was at least one other on our street.

Even though it hasn’t been single-digit cold since this morning, Jett has not wanted to stay out for long.

We watched the Patriots’ game in Denver. In awe of their fortitude: it started to snow heavily around 3 so they played much of the second half in challenging conditions.

I’m changing the sheets and doing laundry.

Yesterday Jett did a giant mucus-covered trump in the living room and unfortunately, I stepped in it. The soles of my poor Timberlands are still not completely clean.

New Battery for Truck

Triple A has stopped replacing and/or testing vehicle batteries in our area. Hasn’t done so for years. We got a jump yesterday from the same tech who was here earlier this week. He recommended O’Reilly Auto Parts; they don’t charge for installation.

The manager at O’Reilly replaced the battery for us. On the way home, I loaded up on groceries at BIg Y because we had a $4 credit. Saved 16% overall, but still shocked at the money I’ve spent on food this week, even with donations from the Pantry and Salvation Army.

It was 4 degrees this morning at 7:30. Expected to stay in the single digits at night for the whole week. Snow predicted to start late tomorrow morning and continue through Monday. I have an appointment Tuesday morning to investigate a leak under the truck bed.

Missed It Again

Some intrepid folks saw a magnificent display of the aurora borealis two nights ago at Top of the World. We were asleep at the time.

I had a living nightmare experience on Tuesday: a room crowded with skinny people doing “strength training” at the senior center. It was horrible and I left, pretty much screaming inside. If I wanted to be in a roomful of type A’s competing with each other, I’d join a “health” club. Besides, who ever heard of strength training that requires yoga mats?

Yesterday and today were good ones. In fact, it’s been a very good week for money (knock on wood). Yesterday I receive the long-promised refund for excise tax from Toyota Financial.

Thought I’d lost $20 at Walmart. Got a call from someone who reviewed the video; it showed that I put the bill in the same bag as Ron’s prescription.

I met today with a cool lady at the Salvation Army who took my application for the Good Neighbor Fund then let me know as I was leaving that it was already approved.

Finally, Ron’s FSA approved his $2300 expense for hearing aids!

Yesterday, Ron got his hair cut at McCann’s cosmetology post-grad program for about half the price of the haircutters at Harper; he looks great. He also got a call from his dentist that a cancellation opened up a slot in the afternoon so got his tooth fixed two weeks earlier than expected.

Ron’s been having trouble with his new hearing aids so we went to Pittsfield for an evaluation. Turns out they were not even turned on, possibly because of a bad battery. The tech squared them away and they seem to be working fine now.

We did a laundry and both of us exercised Jett today.

Busy Day, Fine Sunset

My iPhone camera turns pink to orange so no point in trying to get a photo of tonight’s sunset, a reward after two days of snow and overcast.

I made brownies and crisp cubes of tofu this morning before we went to Pittsfield for Ron’s new hearing aides.

We also did a laundry and got halfway through changing the sheets before we had to leave.

Looks like Ron had another accident. He has a phone appointment with a gastroenterologist on Friday afternoon.

We had soup, tofu and brownies for lunch.

I scanned and submitted Ron’s paperwork for reimbursement from his FSA.

Sunday

Made green bean casserole and corn bread for lunch. Used up the veg “bacon”.

Ron plowed the driveway while I cleaned the kitchen.

Brushed most of Jett’s coat.

Took out a subscription to ESPN and watched the Patriots game. They played in about the most abominable weather possible, rain in the first half, snow in the second. Great to be able to see it and I’m sorry I didn’t think of this sooner.

Ever wonder why political campaign solicitations always ask for money and nothing else?

Visit with Friends; Snow

Yesterday I dropped in to the North Adams Senior Center to see Mountain Farm Girl.

Ron drove us to Jett’s vet so I could pick up a bag of dental care crunch for treats. On the way back, I called Ron’s friend who lives in the area. He and his wife invited us for tea.

Did laundry.

This morning I made waffles for breakfast. With a couple of inches of new snow on the ground, it seemed to fit the weather.

Adapted a recipe for chicken stew to a soy curls/cannellini bean/porcini mushroom/spinach stew. Pretty good, too.

We watched the end of “The Breakthrough” on Netflix. Loved it, of course.

Programmable Thermostat! Jett’s Meds.

We had a home energy assessment yesterday by Homework Synergy. The specialist had no recommendations, said MassSave had done a good job for us two years ago.

He did install a Honeywell programable thermostat that operates on AA batteries and it seems to be working great. I set up two schedules for it last evening, for weekends and weekdays.

Ron’s test for intestinal infections was negative.

Jett’s Credelio arrived today. He took it along with his monthly Sentinel without complaint.

Attended a session at the library with the MARCOM director of Front Page Forum, the Library outreach coordinator and a couple of interested residents.
