So, where is the connection in the alternate meanings of the word “profession”:
An occupation or career
An avowal of faith or belief
Does this strike you as odd? I think it is.
The Long and Mostly Short of It
I am NOT interested in being Joan of Arc, leader of young men, aka Team Lead, Group Leader or any other designation hinting of management, indirect or otherwise.
A Cautionary Tale
In the ’70’s, author/housewife Terry Martin Hekker made quite a stir on the talk show circuit with her anti-feminist, pro-homemaker/stay-at-home-Mom opinions.
Newport, New Year’s Eve 2006
Glad I did it, used my 2005 timeshare week to host the grandkids in Newport for New Year’s Eve weekend.
Too Much Stuff
My home office is inundated with stuff: 3-ring binders, file folders, a couple of dead telephones, old computer equipment, books, software and most of all, PAPER.
Happy Holidays, and Be Done with It
It’s supposed to warm up, but right now, the porch, the lawn and presumably, the roads, are coated with a thin veneer of ice and frost.
Sure beats snow, and it’s already melting from the trees, making a soft staccato on the leaves below.
Christmas Eve
Started early today, another bout of insomnia, which was ill-timed, considering that a stop at the medical lab was on the agenda, and they didn’t open until 8.
Project Implicit
The Implicit Association Test was designed by researchers at Harvard, the University of Virginia and the University of Washington to detect unconscious biases in attitudes about gender roles and preferences based on age, race, appearance, etc.
You can try the tests out on their demonstration website, which doesn’t require registration.
Good Start to the Day
It’s a balmy forty degrees outside, and my overnight guest, oldest grandson, Robert, just finished off 3 bowls of oatmeal and a sample of the cake he made last night, white cake with homemade white frosting. Right now, he’s working his way through a plate of eggs and bacon.
Games
I HATE being played, especially by recruitment firms, which are usually staffed by kids who may have pleasant enough interpersonals, but lack the nuance, insight and self-confidence of people with a lot of business experience.
