Survived the Derby

We made it through the demo derby.  Talked with Ben; he said the field was full.  Four days to go.

Picked up Cathy’s mail and visited her; she’s doing very well!

No word from Cindy.

Shredded leaves for mulch over the daffodil bed.  Watered the roses.  Saw another hummer, this time at one of the feeders.

The last part of Robert’s birthday gift arrived damaged and without the code he needs to use it.  Emailed vendor, they were not especially helpful.

Intestinal distress for most of the day.

More Van Sorrows

Went to the Senior Center.

Ron had GMC tow his van to their shop.  They gave him a sharp little Hyndai rental.

Since I seem to have found the problem with my eyelids, I passed on the scratch test and rebooked an appointment for a penicillin test.  Didn’t realize they aren’t done together.

Stopped in to see Cathy.  Got her key to check her mail, which Ron and I did late afternoon after today’s delivery.

Texted and emailed Cindy.

Did some cleaning up/straightening up next to the shed.

Grilled chicken and a fine salad made by Ron for the evening meal “miracle”.

Saw the Wampanoag Lady Hawk Singers at WBNERR.  They are among the few all-woman First Nation singing group in the country.  We are lucky to have them here!

Paid bills, did some watering.

99° and Climbing; A/Cs in

Ron and I, mostly Ron, put in the A/Cs this morning.  It’s been 99° outside here for the last hour or so.  Got up to 101°, but low humidity.  I put a load of laundry outside to dry.

Laura and I made a field trip to the Bourne transfer station.  Has it ever changed since last I was there, it’s like a small city now!

We brought a pretty good load of stuff.  Then Laura found two twin beds and frames for Susan.  That netted us a whole 20 pounds, or 95 cents in fee!

I did some rearranging of lumber and pallets by our shed.  It’s temporary until we get more reasonable temps for working outside.

Ron did some more oak trimming.  His van stalled multiple times after leaving GMC.

We brought the oak to Emma’s and got to see “Mr. Toddler”, who waved, smiled and said a few words!

Came back, showered and went to Laura’s to float around in the pool.

Another shower, salad and wine for supper, watched part of “The Secret of Roan Inish”.

Everyone’s Complaining

Hot, humid.

Watered the lawn in back.

Did a wash and it dried outside.

Changed the sheets.

Brought wood and pallets over from the Winslows for my planned shed extension.

I made some oatmeal/rhubarb/coconut/white chocolate bars.

Ron cut down a slew of brush for Emma’s sheep and consolidated the leaf piles.

We went to the 1717 Meetinghouse for a talk on Wampanoag culture but left after about 45 minutes because it was hot and I could barely hear the speaker.

Clam chowder and salad for supper.

En Plein Air

Was outside for most of the day.

Watered the front lawn first thing.

Watered the vegetable garden.

Set up a sprayer hose and watered on either side of the bulkhead.

Pruned the rest of the branches that Ron cut yesterday.  Loaded the truck.  We brought them to Emma’s.

Did a white wash, hung it out.  Never got enough sun to dry the towels.  Started to spit a little around 3:30 or thereabouts, so I ended up putting it in the dryer for about 20 minutes.  The new clothes dryer handled a full load with room to spare.

Laura and Susan came over to see the Endless Summers.  Susan dug up some Lacecap hydrangea babies.

Ron cut up the branches and re-loaded the truck.

A male Ruby-throated Hummer visited the hosta flowers near the deck this morning!

Burgers, fries and salad for supper.

Mixed Bag

Day started out pretty well.  I was up early and pruned the front privets.

Then we went to the Senior Center, where Ron crossed the line by defending another woman – from me!

We were in the lobby waiting for the door to open.  A very petite lady stepped in front of us.  I said to her, the line is here.  She is deaf, indicated that she couldn’t hear me.  I said it again, louder.  She said she’d been waiting for longer than us, at which point I was ready to drop the conversation.

But, no.

Ron claimed that my tone was angry.  He started yelling at me and then another man piled on.  I told the other man to please mind his own business.  I blew up at Ron and everyone else because I’m sick and tired of being treated like shit by men because I’m not a petite cutie pie.  Ron continued to berate me from the Senior Center to home.

I was so disgusted that I decided to work off my fury at Edgewater.  James was available, so he string-trimmed the yard.  I weeded and planted five flowers in the grass garden.

James asked for lunch in lieu of pay, and even though he was hungry, he suggested that we unload at the transfer station first so we could avoid crossing traffic:  smart AND thoughtful.  I had about half a truck load of recycling – I’d washed a pile of pots earlier – as well as detritus from the yards.  Also had a big cardboard box.

On the way back to Edgewater, we stopped at Pizza Prima.  James wanted to bring home a whole pizza, which I thought was nice of him.

Went back to Edgewater to finish planting and cleanup.  Came home and Ron had sawed most of the Russian olive.  He had lunch, finished cutting, and took off to pick up his meds at Stop & Shop.  I did a lot of trimming and loaded a pile on the truck for Emma’s sheep.

At Emma’s, we got to say “hi” to Woody, Joanne and Tiny Terror.  On the way home, we dropped off our four Fair passes to the Robbins’.  Got to chat briefly with Donald.

Spaghetti squash with sauce and cheese for dinner.

The old Dell is still not booting up, even with the new battery.  The hard drive is not compatible with the new Dell.

I tried.

First Clothesline Load, First Tomatoes!

100_6368100_6369 100_6367

Got the new clothes dryer up; first load, forgot clothespins!

Produce and pretties from the garden.

Last drop-in to the Winslows.  Dead-headed the roses and hydrangeas  in the front.  The irrigation system seems to be working very well, so I didn’t need to water.

Ron picked up his stupid van today and of course, it died after he drove it off the lot and (fortunately) to the Mobil station at exit 6. I got smart and insisted that they comp him a rental car. Naturally he complains about it: “too big”. It’s just a Chevy Malibu, for heaven’s sake!

I mowed the yard front and back.  Ron tooled off to Falmouth for errands – including clothespins!

Forgot to post that we had a pretty decent supper last night – grilled salmon and corn.  Then Ron came up with a loathesome dessert idea: orange jello, whipped cream and Grand Marnier.

Grilled beef skewers and spaghetti squash tonight.

Air!

It finally cooled off.  The air today is cool and drier.  Thank goodness!

Visited two more gardens yesterday.  Ron is almost back to normal this morning from the colonoscopy.  We picked up some groceries for him yesterday afternoon.  I got some plants at Mahoney’s (senior discount day) and Spencer’s, maybe for the grass garden at Edgewater, maybe for here, not sure.

I got to drive Robert home.  He has some good stories!

Checked in on Lucy yesterday evening and this morning.  She’s still hiding, but is eating.  Did a little dead-heading over there and here as well.

Saw a hummer flying around our liatris this morning!

Chipmunk that is either sick or sleeping was on the left side of the shed this morning.  We already picked up one dead one.  A little concerned.

Kick Back Day

I was able to visit two gardens today and to have lengthy conversations with the homeowners.

Ron’s procedure went very well.  The doc said he looks good and kept him on a five-year schedule.

Picked up Ron a little after 11.  He slept for most of the afternoon.  I brought home two different kinds of clam chowder for supper.

Fasting, New Computer

Ron’s Macbook Air arrived today.  He is happy again.  It is so tiny that I thought at first it was a packing envelope.  I’m pleased with it, though, saw another one on the Apple refurbish site today for about the same money but a smaller screen.

Ron has a colonoscopy tomorrow morning, and I felt it wouldn’t be fair to eat when he has to fast.

So, today we have both restricted ourselves to liquids, Jello and popsicles.

I went to the Senior Center this morning.  Afterwards, we picked up James’ bass guitar in Hyannis.  We stopped at the Stop & Shop in Marstons Mills and brought food and the guitar to Edgewater.

Peter has gotten TOO THIN.

I took off this afternoon with the intention of seeing a garden in Falmouth, but the house had no curb appeal for me, so I went to the beach instead.  It was hot and airless, and I left after just a few minutes.  Dropped by C-Lab to get a blood test done.  Met with Laura afterwards to go over the care of the plants and Lucy for the next two days.

Perhaps as a result of a liquid diet, or maybe because it’s been in the mid-80’s with no breeze, neither of us remembered Ron’s 4:15 appointment for a biopsy until he came tearing out of his room a little before 5.

Fortunately, the appointment was in Mashpee Commons, and his doctor was able to accommodate him.
