Air!

It finally cooled off.  The air today is cool and drier.  Thank goodness!

Visited two more gardens yesterday.  Ron is almost back to normal this morning from the colonoscopy.  We picked up some groceries for him yesterday afternoon.  I got some plants at Mahoney’s (senior discount day) and Spencer’s, maybe for the grass garden at Edgewater, maybe for here, not sure.

I got to drive Robert home.  He has some good stories!

Checked in on Lucy yesterday evening and this morning.  She’s still hiding, but is eating.  Did a little dead-heading over there and here as well.

Saw a hummer flying around our liatris this morning!

Chipmunk that is either sick or sleeping was on the left side of the shed this morning.  We already picked up one dead one.  A little concerned.

Kick Back Day

I was able to visit two gardens today and to have lengthy conversations with the homeowners.

Ron’s procedure went very well.  The doc said he looks good and kept him on a five-year schedule.

Picked up Ron a little after 11.  He slept for most of the afternoon.  I brought home two different kinds of clam chowder for supper.

Fasting, New Computer

Ron’s Macbook Air arrived today.  He is happy again.  It is so tiny that I thought at first it was a packing envelope.  I’m pleased with it, though, saw another one on the Apple refurbish site today for about the same money but a smaller screen.

Ron has a colonoscopy tomorrow morning, and I felt it wouldn’t be fair to eat when he has to fast.

So, today we have both restricted ourselves to liquids, Jello and popsicles.

I went to the Senior Center this morning.  Afterwards, we picked up James’ bass guitar in Hyannis.  We stopped at the Stop & Shop in Marstons Mills and brought food and the guitar to Edgewater.

Peter has gotten TOO THIN.

I took off this afternoon with the intention of seeing a garden in Falmouth, but the house had no curb appeal for me, so I went to the beach instead.  It was hot and airless, and I left after just a few minutes.  Dropped by C-Lab to get a blood test done.  Met with Laura afterwards to go over the care of the plants and Lucy for the next two days.

Perhaps as a result of a liquid diet, or maybe because it’s been in the mid-80’s with no breeze, neither of us remembered Ron’s 4:15 appointment for a biopsy until he came tearing out of his room a little before 5.

Fortunately, the appointment was in Mashpee Commons, and his doctor was able to accommodate him.

Done In Spite of My/Ourselves

Slept in – and how – today, didn’t wake up for true until 9:45!  By that time, Ron had made coffee and fetched the Times.

For breakfast, we had the rest of Janet’s Finnish bread from the Friday farmers market.  Doesn’t last long here!

Had a nightmare last night, so bad that I woke Ron up from a sound sleep.

We did the transfer station run, changed sheets, laundry, and (mostly Ron) spent the afternoon hauling hoses around and watering containers.  I made a stir-fry for supper.

Produce Day

100_6359Produce day at our house – spaghetti squash and asparagus from our garden; beets, greens and strawberries from yesterday’s Osterville farmers market; a bowl of biscuits.  Brownies, too!

Took a late afternoon walk at the state beach. After supper, made popcorn for a fireside chat with Joe and Laura and their friends from Nashua.

Epic Errand Run

We accomplished eleven things in a single trip:

– Gassed up the truck;
– Dropped off brush at the transfer station
– CVS in Cotuit for vitamins
– Farmers’ Market at Osterville
– Rockland bank, Osterville branch
– Left James’ guitar for repair at Jack’s drum shop
– Green Lotus for lunch
– Country Garden for vegetable plants
– Visionworks to get our glasses adjusted
– Harbor Freight
– Home Depot for Gorilla tape and flowers

After deciding not to stop at Stop & Shop on the way home, Ron, of course, left to pick up a few things at Stop & Shop. Came home and back out again to mail some letters. Got to the post office with less than five minutes to spare before the last dispatch.

I planted everything: cukes, cabbage, day lilies.

Blood, Humidity

Humid today.  Went out a few minutes ago and there was so much moisture on the deck railings that it felt as if it had rained.

Ron had a good checkup today with his new doc.  He’s lost weight and lowered his cholesterol!  He also gave blood today.  I was too anemic to donate.  Falmouth traffic was a mess, their annual arts festival, but we made it there and back.

Drove Robert to and from work.  Nice to spend a little time with him.

Went to Mahoney’s for more vegetables and a little wrought iron table which is now next to the bench.  I planted parsley, mixed greens and Kentucky Wonders, which I haven’t seen since my youth but remember fondly.

Ron and I brought our load of yard debris to the transfer station.

I did a couple of quick fixes for RFC and MRS.

Bad health news from Cathy today.  I will aim to be optimistic.

Cement Day!

Ron and I dug the hole for the clothes dryer in a spot that has no rocks and no roots.

I borrowed Joe’s trough and hoe, and Ron mixed and poured the cement, complaining throughout that it would have been easier with an OdJob.

We only needed one bag of Quikrete, which annoys me, but oh, well.  The cement needs to set for a minimum of five days, which will be after this week’s normal laundry days.

I’m reasonably pleased with the location.  It gets plenty of sun and it’s off to the side.  I’m looking forward to having fresh-smelling laundry again.

Laura invited us for a swim: very kind and very welcome.

I did more watering today: the left side of the U, the oval, the middle portions of the U, a short water for the vegetable garden.  Tried transplanting some seedlings.  Laura’s doing great with her gardens!
