It’s raining, and the gardeners and landscapers are happy, if not the parents of schoolkids on their first day of summer vacation.
It’s been weeks since we’ve had rain, and this is a good, soaking one that comes, luckily, a day after the local Pro-Am.
Hot
It’s been hot since I got back from California, and today felt like one of the worst. I’ve got two glasses of iced tea going, and my computer keyboard is acting a little strangely.
Glad today was the last day of school for the kids, and I’ll bet their teachers are even happier.
New Home for the Sube
For about a week I was a two-vehicle owner, but my beloved Subaru now has a new home, with my friend Cindy: we did the paperwork today.
Emme, the Gardener
Emme and I took off yesterday after she and Bob finished their second performance of “The Great Kapok Tree” at the Falmouth Arts Alive! festival (photos here)
We stopped at Coonamesset Farm for lunch, then went back to my house for a short visit, during which time we edited the photos and did a spin around the gardens.
And Soon It Will Be July
Last weekend, I left for a business trip to California. In only four days time, it feels like the whole atmosphere around here has changed, and not just because our Hemisphere’s Summer Solstice happened in the interim.
Happy Father’s Day
Aside from holiday wishes to Peter, I’m not exactly sure what to think about this day, let alone commemorate it.
Suffice it to say that I wish that Mother’s Day AND Father’s Day would go the way of minor holidays, like Arbor Day.
Photos
These span March of this year through yesterday:
I’m a Moderate (Son of a Gun)
Found a link to a quiz that originally appeared in the October 28-30 issue of USA Weekend and scored in the Secretary Powell range, which is not bad company to be in.
Now, I can say “We Moderates hate the Bush Administration”, and get away with it.
Check it out, it only takes about 5 minutes to complete.
Gardener’s Diary
The temperature dropped over 20 degrees in an hour and a half, and thank goodness – we seem to be done, for now, with the record heat.
In spite of being defoliated by gypsy moth caterpillars and who knows what else, the fairy rose started blooming. It is nice to see the little white flowers again, and pretty much on schedule with last year.
Car
Yesterday, got a bad report on my ancient car.
It needs a ton of work, so I’m faced with a decision about whether to get a new vehicle instead.
