95; Watering; Hibiscus

Less humid yesterday, so I watered like mad.  After seeing how well a spontaneous hole in the soaker for the roses worked, I skewered three more.

Lunch with Paul at Estia.  Rob stupidly brought up an incident from Cambridge about “a woman (he) wanted to get to know” that sent me into a rage.

The Chromecast arrived yesterday.  I set it up so we can use the old monitor as a TV.

First perennial Hibiscus flower.

Rudbeckia; 95

Did laundry.

Planted the Rudbeckia.  Minor shower, thunder in the distance.  Flooding down Cape.

Shucked corn(!) for lunch.

Finally remembered to clean the floor paint off the closet door handles in the new room.

Gave Robert a ride home.

Leftover stir fry for supper.

97

Made beet/coconut milk soup.

Ron’s van is fixed.

We dropped off the branches from yesterday’s pruning at the transfer station.  I cleaned out the truck bed.

Peter and James are off in the truck to pick up a washing machine.

Salad and leftovers for lunch.

Happened to be at Mahoney’s at just the right time, when one of the ladies was marking down a group of Rudbeckia.  Got four for the retail price of one plus $1.

More Warranty debugging.

Van Door

Ron dropped the van off at Cormier’s this morning.  They ordered and received “the” part; we’re hoping they’ll be done tomorrow before we need to pick up the boys.

We went to the farm together, which was nice, to pick up this week’s CSA share, then grocery shopping at Shaw’s.

I dropped in briefly to the MRTC meeting to give Phyllis a donation and pick up a yard sign and bumper sticker for Jay.

Made an excellent veg meatloaf: carrots, onion, Hakuri turnips (celery substitute), eggplant, parm cheese, bread crumbs, egg, lemon zest, oregano, fresh parsley and fresh basil.  Fresh green beans, too, and baked a couple of potatoes for tomorrow.

93

We are in a heat and humidity spell.  Terrible here, worse off Cape.

I’d forgotten to mail our septic loan payment, so we drove to Barnstable Village to drop it off.  Stopped at Edgewater on the way to cut off some dead limbs and leave the hedge clipper for Peter.

Got lunch at the BV Market, found a shady spot in Yarmouth across from the Gorey House, drove to the Rockland branch so Ron could get his change counted, but they don’t have a machine.

Got to the Mashpee Rockland in time to get that taken care of.

No engine warning light in over 3 hours of driving.

Veg burgers and baked potatoes for supper.

Sunday: Humid, 89

Broke down and recycled two more huge cardboard boxes from the attic.

Did a little weeding at Edgewater.  Peter and I cleaned up daylily stems.

Trash run, laundry, changed sheets.

Dropped off vegetables with James.

Betsy, whose husband and son were/are in law enforcement (security guards) likes my “Before You Call the Police” post.

Quick Project; Rain

We completed a task I’ve been thinking about for a while, and it was easier than I thought it would be: breaking down and recycling the empty cardboard boxes and packing paper that was in the attic.  We fit it all in the truck.

Ron treated us to pizza for lunch.

Rain this afternoon, sometimes heavy.

NoMoRobo has been working great for us.

I made sauteed vegetables – potatoes, kale, beet greens, onion, tomatoes – cheddar and eggs for supper.

Closet

We, mostly Ron, put up the shelf in the closet yesterday.

Have seen more of the hummingbird/s recently.  One perched on the clothesline the other day.

This must be home; Ron’s buffalo herd is on the roam.

Check engine light came on again yesterday.  Made appointments at Midas and Falmouth Toyota.

Still hot and muggy: hit 92 yesterday.

Found the ingredients and put together a spray that’s supposed to repel gnats and midges: original Listerine, witch hazel and tea tree oil.

Slept through the night.

Shredded Zuke Salad

Oh my gosh, good: tomatoes, cuke, feta cheese, shredded zuke, green olives, lemon balsamic vinegar.  Could eat it by the tub.

Ron has a checkup today with his doc; it went great, but you’d never know it from his long face.

NWS says it doesn’t get any more humid than this.

The little vacuum cleaner that’s been sitting in the basement for years works!  The filter, though, was so clogged that it took three tools to clean it.  Actually, four.  It’ll be a big help once everything is put back together.

Ron prepped a nice pine board for the closet shelf.  I painted it.

Closet; Stir Fry

Finished the second coat of paint and the mop board.

Did laundry.  Paid bills.  Made mashed potatoes from the ones I washed last night.

Ron shopped and fell asleep early.

I made brown rice and stir fry with Pariah Dog vegetables: zucchini, onion, garlic, green pepper, carrots, turnip and cabbage.
