We went for a walk today at one of the Bourne Conservation Trust’s properties, Little Bay.
Month: March 2013
Bills, and more
Paid bills today. Picked up a prescription for me and a “trank” for Fluffles so we can groom him ourselves.
Had a few other errands and that pretty much took care of the afternoon. Ran into a member of the User Group who was doing handyman tasks for one of our neighbors. Hope he can give us an estimate on putting up walls in the basement.
Found some good papers and free eBooks on abstraction, MVC versus Web Forms, Web Parts and User Controls, Scaffolding and Responsive Design, Knockout and JQuery.
Ron managed to clean the front of the stove with a solvent! Too bad that I’ve ruined the finish through the years using abrasives.
Planted the moonflower seeds in an Earth Box in the cold frame.
Rain
Finished leaf cleanup here yesterday. Did the transfer station run with Peter.
Found Ron’s DAR lineage online – very pleased about this! Turns out, his Revolutionary War ancestor was one of the Minutemen. There’s a fair amount of info online about this part of Ron’s family tree.
More emails about CCMTA and NationBuilder. Got an email blast set up, we’ll see if it goes out today. I managed to put together a list of email addys for our Congressional district and a rough transcript of the NationBuilder training video.
Angry call from Candy. Her “mean girls” have been at it again. Why couldn’t they just leave her alone?
We had something like slush last night, but it’s just raining now.
Gardener’s Diary
Have been leaf blowing and raking this weekend. Yesterday, we dropped off the leaf vac for servicing.
Cleaned up the vegetable garden and the front beds yesterday. Did the “U” in the back today. Picked up a bag and a half of leaves, sticks and other debris with the mower.
Cleaned out the Earth Boxes and planted pumpkin seeds in one of them. Also set up Fluffles’ grass in the cold frame.
Made matzo brei this morning.
First Crocus
Meeting at Town Hall
Good meeting with presentation by Chief George Baker on the hopelessness of escaping a catastrophe at Pilgrim.
I made couscous and sausage for supper.
Leaves, Laundry
I raked in front of the fence, behind the deck and the vegetable garden.
Have some pretty plants with red leaves coming up: lettuce?
Was going to a Master Gardener’s lecture tonight in Falmouth, but I’m too tired.
In addition, I’m halfway through a pile of laundry.
Ron sorted through more old paperwork today. I picked up KI pills for all of us at the Board of Health. I made chicken soup and pasta salad with the rest of the 5 Buck Cluck.
AARP Survey; Hour in Court
I am concerned with the amount of cronyism in Massachusetts. I would support a law that prohibits hiring of relatives.
I support public unions.
I am more concerned with the inadequacies of DCF than I am with services to seniors. I have little sympathy for example for women who have never worked but who feel that the rest of us owe them.
We went to Plymouth Superior Court today for what turned out to be the last pre-trial hearing of the P-11. The case was dismissed. There were many sad faces and vows to return to Pilgrim.
We left because Ron was told incorrectly that he had an early afternoon doctor’s appointment. Even though his appointment wasn’t until later, it was just as well that we went home.
Home Sweet Home
Birthday
Cake, candy and beautiful flowers from Ron! And a great card from Peter.
Ron took us out for dinner to Bobby Byrne’s, one of the few restaurants that offers a free birthday dinner. Today is Tuesday, and they run prix fixe specials for $10.95. Good luck for us, indeed; we split orders of meatloaf and fish and chips, both delicious. Our dinners included soup, coffee and dessert. We were stuffed to the gills and not bankrupt, even though I ordered two glasses of wine at Ron’s insistence.
Best birthday in a very long time!
