Ducks in the Neighborhood

010A pair of ducks were strolling around LeConti’s yard last evening, then walked across the street. Don’t know what happened to them after that or for that matter, where they came from. We think the rain may have confused them, it being good weather for ducks, haha.

Covered a Lot of Ground

011Started the day at 5 so I could get to help out Jr. Tech with their STEM for girls registration at MMA.

Had a nice conversation with one of the other volunteers, a lady who taught computer science in Worcester and is now helping her church manage their database.

I stopped off at Home Depot to pick up a dethatching blade for Peter’s lawnmower. Also got some metal hose nossles.

Dropped off a small donation to the 8th grade Washington DC trip fundraiser and then did a quick walk through the health fair at the high school. Some good information and learned of a new PE program: the high school got a grant to purchase rollerblades and helmets. The teacher invited me to try it and I would have loved to except for my arthritic ankle. Had a nice chat with Michael from Mahoney’s about cold weather crops. He agreed, everything is late this year.

Went to the market at the Waquoit church for donuts for Ron, but Patience wasn’t there. Picked up a gorgeous bottle of white wine vinegar. Stopped at Roche to get some celebratory macaroons for Peter and dropped them off for him at Cape Mac. Went to Stop & Shop for my meds.

Made sandwiches for lunch with the new Panini pan that Ron got on sale at Williams Sonoma: great. We loaded up the truck and picked up trash and recyclables at Edgewater along with the lawnmower.

After the transfer station, Ron was able to switch out the lawnmower blades. He dethatched the back yard. I did some raking as well; lots of dead grass.

Made meatloaf for the first time in the microwave: done in 15 minutes.

Wholesale Nursery Is Open

I told Ron, “You’re in trouble.” He said, “Good!”

I planted the window boxes and starting yesterday, brought the jasmine outside. Ron hooked up the back hoses and confirmed that the beautiful sprinkler survived the winter.

VonHaam put me on predisone. I just barely made it to the Selectmen’s meeting last night to ask about Article 25 . They were very nice to me. Visited Spohr Garden but not very many blooms yet.

Picked up 5-10-5 today at Waquoit. Put out four deck chairs and the umbrella; it’s time. Shirtsleeves temps today.

Ron slept all afternoon until 8, so I sorted through his piles of papers. Did a lot of filing, recycling and setting aside for shredding or for him to go through. Ron’s big check from his health care reimbursement account came yesterday and I deposited it on the way to the doc’s.

Burgers, salad and free blueberry pie for supper tonight. Ron’s right: we have to start putting our day-olds in the frig now before the plants get them.

Ron is Sick

The disease that flattened me for the past week finally found Ron. He’s sick as a dog today.

I’m better but my eye sockets are still a mess. Thinking it might be eczema. Hope to see vonHaam tomorrow.

Hyacinths are coming up. Fluffles’ grass is tall enough for him to eat. We had frost last night; I’m just as glad I’ve been too sick to put in cold weather annuals.

Good Grief, It’s Saturday

I’ve been out of commission this week but still am taken aback that it’s already Saturday.

Ron and I met with a construction person yesterday at Edgewater who fixed our chimney flashing on the spot for the cost of a tube of caulk versus $510 versus $1000+.

One of our neighbors, a girl from Leatherleaf, stopped by last night to thank me for my letter to the editor defending Sturgis. She’s a junior at the school. Props to her! This morning, a gentleman who ran for School Committee a couple of years ago called to thank me. I’m waiting for the hate mail now.

Ron just got up. Now HE’S sick. Unfortunately, the only healthy one among us, Fluffles, can’t drive or use an ATM.
