Vineyard

Ron, Robert and I went to the Vineyard yesterday to visit Cheryl, Conor and Pat.

The weather held in a manner of speaking: still humid but less oppressive on the island.

We figured out that Conor and Robert are almost the same age, only four months apart!

Visiting with the Rooneys is a great event:  lots of good food and lively conversation.  Cheryl and Pat served cheese, crudites, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, pilaf, Caesar salad, three cold salads and a flan that was out of this world.

My big mistake was suggesting a parking place that was $5 cheaper than the Steamship Authority lot, but almost a half mile away.  We were blocked from a convenient exit from the Authority lot and speaking for myself, were disoriented as a result.  Thanks to Ron and Robert’s iPhone apps, though, we made our way to the van.

Productive but Stymied, Too

I did laundry today, changed sheets, brought Robert to work, did the transfer station run, made a ground turkey and savory pie.

We got our New York Times: all of it!

I downloaded all of Ron’s photos from his iPhone to my laptop. Some really nice ones of Highfield and our morning glories.

After checking two weather forecasts, Ron set up to do some outdoor carpentry. It is now pouring.

Rain

Brief rain shower this morning, but it delivered about an inch and a half.

Supposed to meet Cindy and Cathy for breakfast, but both are not feeling well.

Uploaded some images for John.

Found a $50 bill at the Commons! Gave it to Peter and Robert. Checked out the last block party of the season.

Hard Work Today

Sweated gallons today and felt like I’d emerged from a sewer for most of this afternoon.

Ron has been watering the “U”.

I did two loads of laundry but used the dryer; it was too humid.

Partially filled in the “cave”, enough to substantially improve the drainage.

Drove Robert to work, brought him a half cake from the senior center. Bought savory at the herb shop.

Returned the hinges to Wood Lumber and got a handle for the door. Ron installed hooks and the handle. Picked up a wired mouse at Staples and a few groceries at Shaw’s.

Tried to catch a showing of “Peter and John” at the library but they were maxed out.

Bills

Paid mortgages, state and federal income tax quarterlies, property taxes, HFCU, Home Depot.

Nice message from Matt Mitko about the stump grunding, he plans to be here some day next week.

Harvest

Did a little task for Jim today. Asked Isabel to please start testing credit card processing.

Picked up Alpha this afternoon and dropped off Ron’s van to GMC. His A/C is on the fritz.

Laura offered the use of her van! Her kindness continues to amaze me. She gave us a nice bunch of rhubarb, too.

We managed to cram three of us in the truck. I needed the step stool to get in and out of the back, but otherwise, it wasn’t too bad except for the stupid seat belts.

More BSODs. I’m about ready to bring this laptop to the “doctor”! The problem seems to be with SonicWall.

Hot

Hot today – over 90 – didn’t do much outside.  Ron is mowing the lawn now.  Weed Man was by.

Brought tomatoes, cukes and squash to Edgewater.

More work on John’s project.  Finally got access to the administrative interface.  Client had given me the wrong URL and login credentials.

Went looking for outdoor shower decorations:  Mashpee Commons, Marshalls, the shop on 151, a consignment store.  Didn’t find anything I liked until I came upon a pile of what looked like leftover yard sale goods, which included a perfect sign and two post hole diggers.  I will repaint the sign which now reads “CHATHAM” to “ROCK THE BOAT”.

Grilled turkey burgers (scallions, bread crumbs and soy sauce), fries, grilled zuccini and salad for supper.  Stuffed!
