Callie’s Beach

Ron drove the Tacoma to Callie’s Beach yesterday.

We drove to Seconsett afterwards via Metoxit and Meadow Neck Roads. This was to satisfy Ron’s curiosity about how we navigated to a house concert years ago.

Ron had done laundry earlier in the day, and we hung it outside. Brought it in around 3:30.

Yesterday was gorgeous, last night was wild, with winds up to 37 mph. Incredibly, we kept power and internet.

Mashpee Voter Participation

For Mashpee’s 2021 town-level elections, total eligible voters by precinct numbered 12,072—with only 1,709 community members showing up to the polls, about 14%.

The May 2021 annual Town Meeting, said Town Clerk Deborah (Dami) Kaye, “was even more dismal” with about 464 people present to approve a $62 million budget.

Easter; Bittercress

I did more Bittercress weeding, especially in the “tea garden” area. Also pruned the Autumn Clematis.

Lizzie has been in and out all morning, supervising.

Good day yesterday. Did a brief standout for Karen in the morning, got to catch up with Mary. Ron and I picked up produce at the farm stand; good thing, it’s closed today. Before that, we stopped at Windfall to look for Nobska Farms pepper spice, but sadly, it seems they are no longer in business.

The farm is gone for sure. We drove to Nobska Road and there’s a house under renovation at the corner. Sad to see a local institution has disappeared.

On the way home, we bought a pizza at Speedway. I must have been beat, put it in the oven without removing the cardboard. It was still pretty good. Made a green salad to go with it.

We watched the end of Season 1 of Ragnarok.

Good Presentation by DNR

Yesterday, the Mashpee Department of Natural Resources presented a ton of good info on the state of our lakes and ponds, including recommendations from consultants Fuss & O’Neill, who did a fine job – my word.

Ron set up the deck umbrella.

We hung out laundry but too late for it to dry completely, so Ron brought it all back in and threw it in the dryer.

Ron had given me $25 as compensation for a $5 Ace coupon, but turns out the batteries he got for the solar tights work. So, I spent it on supper from Fresh Roll. I could get used to living like that.

Installed the Opera web browser. Nice!

Thoroughly enjoyed the first couple of episodes of Ragnarok. Happy Netflix is planning a Season 3.

Lizzie woke up briefly in the early hours but went right back to sleep.

More Leaves, Yardwork

Yesterday I raked, pruned and even watered for the first time this season.

Ron got around to painting the umbrella post.

Doggo seems to hate her new med. She let her food sit for the entire day until Ron tossed it, after which she wolfed down a whole can of fresh food. She’s taken to eating kibble again; great for her teeth.

My turtle photo is getting likes on the Falmouth Wildlife FB page.

Applied for a dev job at Cape Air.

Made soup. Good, too.

Paid bills.

Gorgeous Day

I’m waiting for Ron to finish getting ready, then hope to go for a walk with him and Liz and drop off at the transfer station. Ron cut up downed tree limbs yesterday and I did a bit more cleanup this morning.

Yesterday turned nice after the rain, and we were able to chat outside. Before that, I picked up a big bottle of balsamic vinegar at Uncle Bill’s. The cashier said it’s her favorite, too, and a popular item with their customers. Incredible that we are in the mainstream on something!

I’m more sympathetic with the rich folks who want to restrict access to Callie’s Beach. A couple of them have taken the time to explain the conditions that make it particularly vulnerable to human assaults.

Interesting Times

Last night’s Select Board meeting was pretty intense. People were attacked and defended. I got to deliver my spiel about Callie’s Beach. Met a reporter from the Enterprise. Ron and I were able to watch a video of the meeting afterwards.

UPS came through with my print order for handouts. Very pleased with their service.

I removed the wire and plastic fencing from the garlic garden, which doesn’t have garlic this year. I’d planted elephant garlic, which is coming up nicely, elsewhere.

Brought the smaller gauge pieces of wire fencing and some cardboard to the recycling center at the transfer station. Deposited checks (thank you, NEPS) and picked up some garden supplements at Mahoney’s.

Tried to navigate down Will’s Work Road but gave up.

Ron did laundry; we hung it outside. Changed sheets.

Lizzie had a good night, minor trump this morning. Raining lightly this morning, but I was able to mow down a pile of cress-like weeds anyway. Lawn mower had a full tank of gas that Ron had treated in the fall, and it worked fine.

Gave Lizzie her heartworm, anxiety and flea/tick meds. She’s being stubborn about eating.

Couple of minor things for MRS.

Lizzie Woofed

Lizzie barked last night. Ron was up a couple of times to check on her.

Mailed birthday gifts and cards to Devyn and Mac.

We/I ordered meds for Lizzie yesterday.

LCP meeting today at the high school. Planning to stand out for Karen Faulkner, who supports the solar project in our area.

After the Michigan juror let off two men who conspired to kidnap their governor, I’m going to suggest to the Select Board that they appoint an ombudsman to investigate “complaints about maladministration” rather than doing this themselves.

Made stir fry with tofu. Made brown sauce with stock left from homemade Lizzie food.

We did the transfer station run with recyclables and leaves. Ron dropped off redeemables.

Pruned the hydrangeas next to the house.
