Had a great time with P&B’s kids, an unplanned overnight visit that extended into Saturday with a trip a local farm for pumpkin “picking” and later to the Kennedy Memorial Skating Rink in Hyannis.
Spoiled?
Maybe it’s the weather or coincidence, but recently, 3 women in my acquaintance have reported issues, 2 pretty serious, resulting from a common cause: mothers spoiling their daughters rotten and getting bitten in the backside as a result.
Melanie’s Bill
Massachusetts legislators have been notoriously lenient on drunk drivers, theory being that a lot of them make a good living as defense attorneys for clients charged with DUI.
Examples of same include House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi and Reps. Michael Costello, Daniel Webster and Eugene O’Flaherty.
DiMasi, in fact, appointed the latter three to the conference committee which has been tasked with reconciling the Mass. House and Senate versions of Melanie’s Bill.
Good News, Bad News, Worse News
The MetroWest Daily News reported yesterday that bankruptcy filings in Massachusetts have quadrupled this month as compared to last October.

Frontline: the OJ Verdict
D*d fine program.
A 10-year retrospective on the OJ Simpson trial, it reflects exactly how I felt about the trial and the verdict.
Bodhisattva
Yesterday’s seminar included a statement by a Professor of Theology that a Bodhisattva postpones their own Enlightenment to absorb the “suffering, grievance, sickness” of the world.
Intelligent Design
William Jennings Bryan was portrayed as a villain in the place where I grew up, a reactionary who took the “wrong” side in the Scopes trial of 1925.
Bryan, of course, was part of the prosecution team that brought a case against John Scopes for teaching the Theory of Evolution in defiance of Tennessee law.
Bryan was also instrumental in introducing legislation in 15 states which would have banned the teaching of Evolution Theory.
An Excellent Question
The Boston Herald put some numbers around the homeless population and the lack of subsidized housing in today’s online edition.
