It hardly seems possible, but DSS has, indeed, proven itself capable of inflicting yet more harm on Haleigh Poutre, the 11 year old girl who was almost beaten to death by her adoptive “parents”.
Not only did they ignore years of abuse of this little girl, not only did they want to remove her from life support only a week after she was admitted to the hospital, but they have prohibited her mother – her REAL mother – from discussing her medical condition with hospital personnel.
Unbelievable.
In the words of Wendy Murphy, the attorney who represents Haleigh’s mother, “Silence and secrecy has been the most frustrating component of this case”.
No kidding, Attorney Murphy, and well said: silence and secrecy are the most frustrating component of any adoptee’s life, regardless of their age or condition.
Attorney Murphy is filing a motion this Tuesday on behalf of Haleigh’s mother, and one hopes that the Hampden Juvenile Court will rule in her favor.
Meanwhile, the commission appointed by the governor to investigate the non-handling of this case has asked for an extension. As long as they keep deliberating, DSS has asserted its prerogative to stonewall Haleigh’s mother. Their rationale? That talking about Haleigh Poutre’s status might influence the commission’s findings.
Thanks to the CYAs who cram the public payroll at DSS, Haleigh’s mother is permitted – by DSS – to see her child only for fifteen minutes at a time and only once every two weeks.
That’s right – 15 minutes, every two weeks. Adding insult to the life-threatening injuries which their agency ignored, a DSS worker is in the room while these visits take place. A worker who flapped his or her big yap to complain when Hailey’s mother had the unbelievable presumption to talk with a nurse about her daughter’s medical condition.
Why? What is the purpose of this ridiculous requirement? Why do our state legislators and the courts permit DSS to have ANY say-so in this child’s life?
The answer, my friends, has to do with the fundamental evil that underlies so many public institutions in Massachusetts, starting with the Salem witch trials and ending with Mitt Romney, whose paranoia about gay people has thrust him into an alliance with the misogynistic protectors of pederasty at 2121 Commonwealth Ave.
Every institution associated with the case of Haleigh Poutre has been influenced by and perhaps even motivated by pure, unadulterated evil. And funny thing about evil: encounters with the good send it into a mindless, snarling, self-protective rage.
Kind of like we’ve been seeing in the halls of DSS these past months. Kind of like Haleigh Poutre’s mother saw after she talked with a nurse about her daughter. Kind of like the non-action that has frustrated the rest of us while commissions fiddle and legislators sit on their hands.
Evil doesn’t have to work very hard to accomplish its agenda in Massachusetts – it has lots of minions to do its bidding.
