It’s literally taken years, but I finally picked up my old doll collection from East Milton. It took two suitcases, a shopping bag, and a big box to pack them all, but here they be.
Many of the dolls aren’t worth keeping, the ones that are cheaply made and have no special character.
Most of the dolls are beautiful, though, especially the ones from a doll club I belonged to when I was a kid. A doll from a different country would arrive each month (or maybe every other month).
I bought a hutch, oh, five years ago, with lights and glass shelves, largely so I’d have a place to put my dolls – eventually.
In the meantime, I’d filled up the hutch with junk, and I always felt guilty looking at the wasted space.
So, today, I cleaned out the hutch, washed the glass and put in the dolls, divided roughly by region – Asia/Middle East/Africa on the first shelf, Europe on the second, and mostly North/South America on the third, including what I’m told was one of my very first dolls.
I’ve also been trying to clean up the house, which was a disaster – so much computer equipment in the living room that I haven’t been able to vacuum, papers everywhere, etc.
Plus, yesterday the kids came over for a couple of hours, and there were a few things left to stow away, a remote to be found and dishes to wash.
I thought I was doing so well: arranged the dolls, cleaned up the living room and the guest room, vacuumed, found the missing remote and a bag of batteries for the digital camera….and just now, I put bleach in a colored clothes wash, thus ruining 2 shirts and a sock.
