It Is a Dark and Stormy Day…

The weather people were right, the Cape is being “pummeled” with high winds from a confluence of atmospheric disturbances, including a cold air mass from the West and the remnants of two hurricanes, Wilma and Alpha.

At such times, one is grateful to have someplace dry and warm, a luxury not enjoyed by fellow creatures who make their homes out “there”.
Yesterday, I made a quick run to a supermarket for serotonin-producing frivolities, having already inventoried essentials like batteries, bread and peanut butter.
Even on carb runs, I always check the produce “seconds”, and was lucky enough to forage a tray of perfectly good strawberries and acceptable green beans for 99 cents each.
This Fall must have broken all records for precipitation. Yesterday, I took mercy on some annuals that were languishing in their original pot, and planted them in the garden.
To my horror, I found a slew of termites, which appeared to be fairly localized, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were all over the yard.
This made me wonder what other consequences there will be from so much moisure, especially when they aren’t of the headline-grabbing variety like failed dams and traffic accidents.
