Gardener’s Diary

The weather people predicted rain for most of the long weekend (they’ve been right so far, it started early this morning), so Emme, James and I did some more cleanup work at #11 yesterday, with a big assist from neighbor Joe.

We finished the “nook”, a little sitting area in front of the fence, and picked out and planted 3 mums next to the mailbox.
The mums were on sale, a nice surprise which we didn’t find out about until we got to the check-out. The kids did the selection, a nice combination of fall colors.
Emme helped with the weeding, and I did a light trim of the bushes in front of the house.
Meanwhile, Joe and his dog, CJ, mowed both the front and back yards, maybe the last time the lawn will need to be cut this year. CJ, a big German Shepherd, “helped” by keeping Joe company.
Soon, the yard will be buried under thousands of oak leaves, but for now, it looks pretty good.
