Gardener’s Diary

Looks like we have another good day for melt, and thank heaven for it.
Even with last week’s relatively mild weather, we still have a foot or more of snow in some places.

The flower boxes and the deck are clear of the stuff, though, and I was able to do some pruning, having discovered that a number of plants seem to be green even after the brutal cold, a gratifying yet humbling thing to observe.
The rhodie outside the office window has normal-looking leaves, and the melt has released most of the bushes from the snow.
I’m certain that there are already thousands of seedlings at Twin Gardens and other nurseries; the serious growers started planting in early January.
Mid-March, the time for soil prep, is only a month away, and the Master Gardeners’ class on Backyard Horticulture starts in a couple of weeks.
We’re getting there, “there” being Spring, something definitely to look forward to.
