Gardener’s Diary

Ryan, his brother Matt and Matt’s girlfriend Nicole surprised me today, ready to go to work on R&M Landscaping’s first commission, a serious cleanup of the garden in front of the fence.
I wish I’d taken before and after photos, because they did a fine job edging, weeding and mulching, and certainly improved the look of the front yard.
I did yet another transfer station and grocery run while Ryan and Matt moved the last of the construction left-overs, a pair of glass doors, out of sight. The boys also put the grill back on the deck, thus completing the chores I couldn’t do myself.

Robert and I had cleaned up the wood I scavenged from the old deck. He pulled out a couple of dozen nails for me, and we created a lean-to of sorts with a big piece of plywood and an old tarp on the bottom to provide some protection from the weather.
After the second transfer station run, I washed down the truck in preparation for stone pickup this week and mowed the lawn.
I’ve set up the table, chairs and umbrella plus some temporary gates so that Fluffles, who loves being outside, can walk around on the deck.
I’d also done some more “getting rid of” inside the house, boxing up four cartons of tech books from the office, loading them on to the truck and bringing them to the book container at the transfer station.
