Gardener’s Diary: Yardwork, Without Knees

Worked outside, with breaks, from 10 this morning to around 6:30 this afternoon.
Planted the astilbe, the foxglove, the two iris and a dozen or so bunches of lily of the valley that one of Peter’s neighbors gave us (two trash bags worth).
Peter and I hooked up with some of the neighbors for cleanup day. He and I put 4 bags of mulch at the entrance to Santuit Pond Estates and if I do say so myself, it looks terrific .

We got the deck swept off and Peter put back the dining set. He washed his cars and my truck. We put mulch under the holly tree. I scraped some peeling paint and slapped on primer.
James mowed the lawn at his house and I did mine.
Used the plant budget, which I don’t intend to spend, to get Peter some much-needed outdoor equipment, including a hose carrier and a new mailbox.
At this point, the big stuff is pretty much done at 11, which leaves weeding for next weekend.
I’ve been surprised at how much gardening/yardwork/groundskeeping I can do with two bad knees. The hoes that Carolyn gave me have been a huge help, better for planting than a shovel.
