Vegetables

I prepped and cooked for a good part of yesterday, didn’t leave the property.

Made two salads, kale with tahini and a green; yellow squash, tomato parm casserole; baba ganoush.

Ron did the transfer station run.

We had a delightful cocktail hour on the deck.

Weekend; Filter

Yesterday, Ron did a fair amount of tree work next to the driveway. He’ll cut up the branches. I loaded the truck for Emma’s sheep. Did the MTR standout in the morning.

We’ve been enjoying the rowing machine.

This morning Rondromat did laundry and we changed sheets. I cooked poached eggs with sauteed vegetables and made another attempt at cleaning the oven from the mishap the other day when I burned my hand and spilled a sheet of roasted vegetables. It would be nice to rent a steam cleaner (Home Depot) for the stove.

Changed the water pitcher filter a couple of days ago.

I dropped the leaves off at Emma’s and had a nice visit afterwards with G and Free. G made my day by serving prosecco, which I’d been craving since hearing about a party to which I’d not been invited.

Picked up a few groceries at Stop & Shop.

14 Music Industry Leaders (NY Times)

For an industry that owes much of its fortunes to Black artists, there are few executives of color in the top ranks. These are the chief executives who run the three major label conglomerates that account for roughly three-quarters of the market; the three publishers that generate the most revenue; and the two concert promoters that put on most shows, plus the heads of the six major streaming services and broadcasters.

Tomato Sauce and More Misunderstandings

I baked turnips with garlic and breaded zuke and eggplant.

Made sauce with two pounds of fresh tomatoes.

All turned out well.

I went to CVS to pick up a photo order and of course, three employees and another customer assumed the worst, that I was trying to avoid the checkout line. I started to cry in sheer frustration. The clerk was sincerely apologetic and helped me with my order when the idiot machine failed to read the QR code.

Ron did the same when I burnt my hand on a hot cookie sheet, figuring that I yelled because I lost my temper and not because I was hurt.

The grease smoke from the oven mishap did disrupt the house, but thank goodness, once again, for the whole house fan, which took care of it.

It was hot and humid outside, so the poor central a/c has had hard duty to fix our air so that we can breathe.

Ron is off to pick up Robert. We/I packed him some baked veggies and dipping sauce.

Farm, Rower

The rower arrived on Labor Day. It was well packaged and one of us cut the sensor wire by mistake. Ron fixed it this morning and set it up on rubber mats at the bottom of the basement stairs. He’s done a lot of cleaning and arranging to make room.

I did a couple of hours of farm work yesterday – beans and turnips – and not a lot else. Ron picked up the produce. Drove Robert home last evening, gave him some watermelon.

This morning I took on some difficult transplanting in front of the fence, which was overgrown with coreopsis. Moved a hosta and a day lily.

Ron did the weekly transfer station run. All this before noon.

Labor Day

We and our guests enjoyed yesterday’s cookout. The weather was good and I managed to not overcook the burgers and franks.

Made a big salad and finished the deviled eggs in the morning. Ron vacuumed, cut up the watermelon and shucked the corn; I cleaned the bathroom, made the melba toast/sweet pepper appetizers and did some last-minute weeding and pruning. Did a couple of quick runs for ice (Ron) and citronella candle and lemon (me).

Ron loaded the dishwasher and I finished kitchen cleanup. Not much to do this morning.

We walked from the Community Gardens to the pond. Ron treated us to Naukabout, which was nice.

We did a transfer station run with cardboard and yard work leavings, then drove to the Oak Street overpass but there were no locals and very little traffic, so we headed back home via Route 6A.
