Mulch, Women’s Coalition Breakfast

I think I spread four bags of mulch today. Can’t remember exactly whether it was today or yesterday afternoon. Have been watering, too.

Joined Liz, Maggie and Amy for breakfast this morning at the Optimist. They have so many great ideas and war stories – really a privilege to talk with them.

Stopped at the Organic Farm for pork, cabbage plants and asparagus.

Good appointment with Dr. V yesterday.

Guys who worked on the house were very complimentary, said our money has been well spent and the house is sound! Short of putting in a well for watering, we’ve done just about everything we could to make the house efficient.

Many Goings-On

Patriot Landscape worked for a good part of the day at Laura and Joe’s. Then Mahoney’s showed up with 10 yards of mulch.

Meanwhile, the guys from MDH were here to install insulation, weather stripping, a Thermodome and a whole house fan cover.

Finally, a crew from Davey Tree sprayed a second round of Spinosad here and across the street.

Ron worked.

Election; Seeds

Won a spot on the Library Board of Trustees. Waited at Quashnet until 10 PM for the count to be finished. Deb Dami and her staff were thorough, professional and stalwart!

Up early to get to Orleans District Court at 8 am for Jury duty. What a fiasco. They told me I could leave because of my age, had an argument with me later when I decided not to stay, then finally let me go home. Bureaucratic BS.

Planted corn, bean and cuke seeds. Set up two new soakers, one in the new garden, one to replace a hose I’d sliced in the corner garden. Planted Glads in the corner garden. Bought and put up a new US flag, made in America.

Brought Alpha to the Mall. She graciously agreed to get the bus home.

Busy

Drove Peter to and from surgical center. His doctor called personally to let me know his status; doc was pleased with the outcome. Peter looked in good spirits this evening.

Ron put up the fence for the new garden today. Hard work, glad it’s done.

We did a couple of errands in Falmouth: Kappy’s, Job Lot. Brief visit to the beach. Burgers and fries.

Hardware Cloth; Plant Sales

Ended up ordering 1/4 inch grid hardware cloth online.

Adapter for the ice machine arrived yesterday.

Transplanted the poor bean plants, which were dying for lack of water.

Alpha and I visited the yoga studio yesterday. I got us two half-price month memberships. We made plans to attend the class on Wednesdays at 12:30.

Alpha baked brownies for herself, the boys and Ron.

Brought home plants today from two sales. The best was a new one at the HS. Got rosemary from the Master Gardeners but picked up a bunch of bargains at the HS, including 2 geraniums for a hanging planter; marigolds for the vegetable garden; and Rudbeckia, phlox and a purple something-or-other for the corner garden. Got everything in the ground and watered in two hours, and transplanted the big weedy thing from the veggie garden.

Unfortunately, I forgot to pick Robert up for work.

Finished about 95% of the grass cleanup in the garden in front of the fence. Managed to retrieve a good amount of soil and got all the tools in before dark.

Did remember to drive Robert home!

Income Gap, Big Deal

Zip code isn’t necessarily deterministic when it comes to developing an appreciation for the arts, an understanding of history, interesting friendships or a refined aesthetic. Seems to me those are the benefits of being in the upper/upper-middle class, and all of these can be had for free.

JALC at Doha

Trivial fact: JALC at Doha is broadcast live from the St. Regis Doha. In Qatar. Which explains how we see a nighttime venue when it’s daytime here. I know, duh, who cares, right?

Mashpee TV posted the candidate video. I swear, people with cameras go out of their way to make me look even uglier than I do in person!
