Highfield

After doing the transfer station run, Ron surprised me by agreeing to visit Highfield so that we could see “A Passing Fancy”, the semi-permanent labyrinth built from 19,000 pounds of sticks from a willow nursery in upstate New York.

Ron further surprised me by agreeing to tour the gardens. After walking the building circumference, he suggested we take the Beechtree Path back to the van rather than the parking lot.

We stopped at the Alvin lead line so Ron could get some pix for Gary, then enjoyed playing instruments in the Music Garden.

On the way home, we did a shop at the Windfall and took the ocean roads back to Mashpee.

Rabbits; Holly Ridge

After some rabbit ate a stand of unidentified flowers in the corner garden, I put out deterrent.

Sprayed roses and the Asiatic lilies.

On the way to Home Depot to pick up items to fix the shower, we stopped on impulse at the Holly Ridge restaurant for their Portobello melt and fries. Good food, nice people, beautiful setting.

EDIC; Bloodwork; State House Hearing

I was glued to the live broadcast of the hearing on Medical Aid in Dying yesterday afternoon.

Fortunately, Robert also was interested, and we listened to it as best we could, connectivity being iffy in this area, while I drove from his work to Edgewater.

In the evening, I attended an EDIC meeting, which was competently chaired by Carol Sherman, who allowed comments from visitors. Thank you, Carol!

Up early this morning for fasting blood work. I’m off schedule as a result, just had lunch.

Stellas, Larkspur, Primrose, Coreopsis

Summer flowers have started. Day lilies and hydrangeas should be along soon. Peonies are done.

I was up early yesterday to give Robert a ride to work.

We made stir fry for supper last night and a big salad for lunch.

Made potato and egg salad for lunch today. Pretty much have used the last shipment of produce from Misfits. Should be getting another tomorrow.

Our gang from Compassion and Choices is at the State House today.

Jen, Kids, Mowed Lawn, Laundry

We got to see Jen and her gang last evening at her friend’s house on John’s Pond. The kids love the water; great setup for them. It was an unexpected surprise, and though brief, very enjoyable.

I fell asleep as soon as we got home and slept until 8 this morning.

Read the paper, did a little rose pruning and mowed the lawn. Caught up with our new neighbors to see if they’d be up for pizza and beer some time.

We did laundry and changed sheets.

Deluge This Morning

Glad we got some outdoor work done yesterday. I cut back the six Montauks and Ron and I dug up more oak seedlings in the front lawn.

We went to an orientation session for Woods Hole Film Festival volunteers and decided their expectations are more than we can meet: 4 3-hour shifts, mostly standing.

The giant plant I pulled out of Peter’s garden was pokeweed.

I yanked a bunch of vines from our fence garden yesterday. Planted pre-soaked Nasturtium seeds this morning. Blisters on my right hand popped.

I got Ron’s transfer station sticker at Town Hall and picked up a gorgeous red Dianthus at Attaquin Acres. Got it in the ground before the rain stopped. Groceries at Stop & Shop.

Ron cleaned up the buckets for recycles and worked on his room.

Leftover spaghetti squash for supper.

Knackered; Rain

Little motivation to do much of anything yesterday; not hot, but humid.

We’ve been using the whole house fan to cool things off in the evening.

It’s raining this morning.

We did the transfer station run yesterday. New/old recycling system wasn’t too bad, except that you have to cross the street to reach all of the containers: unsafe and in the case of one driver who stopped her car literally in the middle of the road, encourages idiocy.

I harvested strawberries and rhubarb and we made sauce. The berries are gorgeous but not sweet.

Salad and leftover veg loaf for lunch.

Ron washed the a/c filters, smart move.

I gave Robert a lift home. Happy that he likes his work!

Punted on planned evening activities again.

Baking

In the absence of programming tasks and outdoor chores, I baked a vegetable loaf and pound cake today.

The veg loaf has eggplant, onion, carrots, green pepper, celery, garlic and spinach, mostly from Misfits.

Ron shelled peas. We also had sauteed summer squash and baked potatoes, also from Misfits.

Slight Annoyances (Very Slight)

With a little help from me, Ron cut down the tree branches that he’s been fussing about for what seems like weeks. He gave me the usual patronizing talk, which infuriated me.

After much argument, we picked up a complete shower valve kit at Webb, but found we can’t use it because it would require cutting and sautering pipes. Brilliant.

I managed to lock myself out of my Rockland account. Fortunately we were very close to a branch, and the kind teller/manager helped me immediately.

Yesterday I did enjoy Meeting.

Did some watering today. Pizza for lunch. I can’t stand the thought of cooking and cleaning up.

We’ve been enjoying strawberries.
