Labor Day

We and our guests enjoyed yesterday’s cookout. The weather was good and I managed to not overcook the burgers and franks.

Made a big salad and finished the deviled eggs in the morning. Ron vacuumed, cut up the watermelon and shucked the corn; I cleaned the bathroom, made the melba toast/sweet pepper appetizers and did some last-minute weeding and pruning. Did a couple of quick runs for ice (Ron) and citronella candle and lemon (me).

Ron loaded the dishwasher and I finished kitchen cleanup. Not much to do this morning.

We walked from the Community Gardens to the pond. Ron treated us to Naukabout, which was nice.

We did a transfer station run with cardboard and yard work leavings, then drove to the Oak Street overpass but there were no locals and very little traffic, so we headed back home via Route 6A.

Cookout Prep

Invited friends for a cookout tomorrow. Did a shop yesterday and finished up early this morning.

We did a 2+ mile walk to Johns Pond Estates this morning.

I finished mowing and did a cleanup of the driveway garden, the corner garden and the area in front of the fence.

Made potato salad and boiled eggs for tomorrow. We had leftovers in pita bread for lunch and tomato sandwiches for supper.

Ron has been moving things around in the basement and put some “stuff” in the attic, including his beer bottles. Found a wet spot on the floor but not near any plumbing.

Tailgate; Headlights

Put a serious dent in the tailgate the other day and got a couple of repair estimates yesterday. Tailgate still works, but there are options if I want it replaced.

Ron did three loads of laundry and polished the headlights on the truck so that they look new. I ordered another kit for his van.

We did a transfer station run.

Loaded VS2019 community edition on the Dell.

Small shop at Job Lot.

Kale

Picked kale for two hours this morning at the farm.

Roasted cabbage with garlic and fennel – very good – and Japanese eggplant.

Ron got his email account squared away and now has a week of junk to wade through.

I voted, not too exciting: the big primary races are for the Democrats, Senate and (for the County) Cape Cod Commission.

Did not realize there is a labyrinth at the Quashnet school. Sometimes it pays to wander off the beaten path.

Got my blood pressure taken at doc’s: it was 126/something. Hard to believe.

Back to the farm for CSA.

Beans

Picked green beans, I think 28 quarts, for two hours at Pariah Dog yesterday afternoon. Got to see the little guy; what a doll!

Made baba ganoush and roasted vegetables with noodles yesterday.

I never received my mail-in ballot and was too late to vote yesterday, but did drop off Ron’s. Did a small grocery shop on the way back.

Picked up our balsamic vinegar at Uncle Bill’s.

Volume Control

Fix 1: Restart Explorer via Task Manager

The volume control icon may fail to respond intermittently for unknown reasons. The quickest way to resolve the issue is to restart the Explorer shell.

  1. Right-click on the Taskbar, and click Task Manager
  2. In Task Manager Processes tab, scroll down to Windows processes category.
  3. Right-click Windows Explorer in the list, and click Restart

(For more information, check out the article How to Exit Explorer and Restart Explorer in Windows 10)

This restarts the explorer shell and refreshes the Start menu and taskbar (Shell experience host). See if the volume control button works now.

Greens

I steamed and sauteed carrot and other greens from the farm; addictive

Interviewed yesterday, business is “drug free”, including legal weed. Dropped off an application today for kitchen work down the street.

Been following the PBS commentary on the RNC. Currently watching an RVAT webcast.

Bye Bye FB Groups; Started Early

I ditched four local FB groups.

Yesterday I trimmed and loaded the truck with the remainder of Ron’s “hewing and hacking” and brought the good oak to Emma’s and the pine to the transfer station.

We did the usual: laundry (Ron) and changing sheets.

Was up early this morning and got the cooking done before 8:30: veg loaf and tofu crumbles.

Sent a letter to the Mashpee Enterprise editor about the thin blue line flags on the firetrucks, etc.

Used up last week’s kale, which was in surprisingly good shape, for a heavy soup: onion, garlic, green pepper, tomatoes, couple of red potatoes, celery, summer squash and the tofu crumbles.

Spoke with WeedMan about a possible discount.

We watched “Matewon” last night. Good film!
