As mentioned in a prior entry, this is THE big summer event for this town, and over 10,000 people turned out for it last night.
The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra is a darned good band, and they are a pleasure to hear even when their selections aren’t necessarily to one’s taste.
They seem to have an awful lot of trouble in the soloist department, though; enough said.
As in other years, even though I arrived late, I managed to get a good parking place and a terrific seat in the free section. I could hear the concert very well, and it turned out that it was also the ideal spot to watch the fireworks.
Last year’s fireworks display was a little frightening – I was standing close to an area where the spent shells were landing; one barely missed my feet.
This year, there was no wind, and the fire marshall was happier, beaming about what a great show it was. And he was right – it was THE most beautiful and spectacular fireworks display I’ve ever seen, even surpassing the legendary Falmouth Heights Fourth of July show, according to one spectator who judged it “ten times better”.
I figured to “hang out” at the Commons to avoid the post-show rush, but as it turned out, I got out and back home in less than 10 minutes.
All in all, a most pleasant way to spend a nice mid-summer evening.
