It’s October 29, and today’s big decision is when to dig up the dahlias, which are still happily blooming.
Per my friend Carolyn, who is a superb gardener, I should do it NOW, before there’s a hard frost.
Most of the mums have weathered the long period of rain that should banish any talk of water shortages for a good while, and roses are still blooming in other places, like the Fairgrounds.
The gardens are definitely reaching the end of the season, a sad thing.
The advantage is that daily or even weekly maintenance is no longer necessary.
The last chore, final clean-up, is definitely at hand, although I’m putting that off for as long as possible. This morning, it’s cold and raw, but tomorrow is supposed to be better, so maybe I’ll get started then.
Altogether, it’s hard to believe that Daylight Savings Time ends tonight, Halloween is Monday, and November is less than 72 hours away.
