Minding the Grands

I’ll be kid-sitting this Thursday night in a marathon session with my 3 grands.
It’s kid-sitting, mind you, not baby-sitting, as my granddaughter, almost age 8, corrected me (“we’re not babies, huff”).

I got to see them several times over the Thanksgiving break, and hope to grand-nap them again this weekend for Christmas tree decorating and a visit to the Barnstable County Fairgrounds.
For the first time, the Fairgrounds is open at night this month for a special holiday program with lights, entertainment and, of course, food, the prerequisite for any outing with the kids.
Starting this weekend, one of the local hotels, the Cape Codder, will be having holiday festivities of their own, complete with a marshmallow roast, cocoa and cookies. Running around with flaming sticks is a big draw, terrifying for adults and sheer delight for the boys in particular.
Their grandfather has asked if I’d be “up” for the annual school vacation sleepover, a horrible affair involving 5 and possibly 6 kids, a swimming pool, complaints from other hotel guests, and not enough beds for everyone.
Happy holidays.
