I am not doing handsprings about the possibility of yet another Democratic being elected to the Senate, but if Jim Martin defeats Saxby Chambliss in next Tuesday’s run-off in Georgia, it’ll be a good excuse for a celebration.
Saxby Chambliss, you may recall, is the low-life who defeated former Senator Max Cleland, a veteran who lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam, in 2002 via a disgusting campaign that questioned Cleland’s patriotism.
I recall that campaign very well, including the incredible attempt to minimize Cleland’s injuries by questioning the circumstances under which he was crippled. The whole Chambliss campaign was out of the dirtiest pages of any political playbook.
McCain is supporting Chambliss, and I’ve read that Romney and Palin are campaigning for him.
There are some principles more important than party loyalty. These people, especially McCain who has nothing to gain by continuing to go along with the intellectually, politically and morally bankrupt GOP, should all be ashamed of themselves.
