{"id":682,"date":"2006-07-26T06:58:40","date_gmt":"2006-07-26T11:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/wp\/?p=682"},"modified":"2016-08-04T11:21:07","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T16:21:07","slug":"bmi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/?p=682","title":{"rendered":"BMI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maybe I&#8217;ve been watching too many episodes of &#8220;House&#8221;, in which putting patients into a coma and causing them to feel extreme pain are standard diagnostic tools, but I&#8217;m getting even more paranoid about things medical.<br \/>\nSo, when the local news reported that the sins of being overweight include making it tough to read X-rays, I computed my BMI.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nTurns out that I&#8217;m only about 30 pounds away from &#8220;normal&#8221;, according to the health fascists.<br \/>\nThis seems like not a lot to lose, considering the documentaries about men and women who have dropped 400 pounds or more after gastric bypass surgery.<br \/>\nI would imagine that being a mere 30 pounds away from goal would be like a miracle to them.<br \/>\nTheoretically, over the course of a year, one could shed that amount by walking around 875 miles, or about 17 miles\/week. There&#8217;s an interesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywell.com\/calories-burned-while-walking-3432716\" target=\"_blank\">chart<\/a> which shows that slow walking (1\/2 mile\/hour) is actually more beneficial than moderate walking.<br \/>\nNeedless to say, it would be nice to work in a place where one could safely walk even a mile a day at lunch.
