There was supposed to be a nature walk at the Childs River Conservation Area less than one minute from my house; until today, I’d not known it was there.<\/p>
The walk must have been cancelled, but I got to do a little off-roading this morning, heading southwest on well-packed dirt roads until I reached asphalt again in Waquoit.
\nThere wasn’t much to see, woods and old bogs, but I located another spot that’s supposed to have good trout fishing for Bob and me, the Quashnet River Area on Martin Road off Falmouth Road.<\/p>
\nEarlier, I took a drive down to Sippewissett in Falmouth, stopping for a cup of coffee and the paper at Dana’s.<\/p>
I discovered that “Emme’s house” on Monomoscoy is available for summer rental at only $4,000 a week.
\nAnd yesterday, a friend and I had lunch at Hemisphere, which used to be Horizons. We sat outside, enjoying the breeze and an unobstructed view of the Canal and the beach.<\/p>
This evening, there’s a walk on the Canal to three historic places in Bourne. If the weather holds, I might make it down there.<\/p>
Last evening was an almost total disaster, a waste of a Friday night. I had the misfortune of listening to several hours of complaints from a few several-sheets-to-the-wind neighbors during what was supposed to be a fun outing to the annual county fair and a performance by Chubby Checker.
\nThe power failed before the concert was over, but beforehand, I did get to see the quilting competition, a high point which I never miss, and my once-a-year cotton candy.<\/p>
Tomorrow night, following a cookout at the house of another friend, there’s supposed to be fireworks, weather permitting. That’ll be “it” for my attendance at this year’s county fair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
