{"id":679,"date":"2006-07-16T13:53:44","date_gmt":"2006-07-16T18:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/wp\/?p=679"},"modified":"2015-05-09T17:25:34","modified_gmt":"2015-05-09T22:25:34","slug":"explaining-it-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/?p=679","title":{"rendered":"Explaining It All"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a page with banner ads &#8220;Still caught in the cycle of depression?&#8221; and &#8220;Find a Therapist Near You&#8221; is an old (July\/August 2001, but reviewed in May of this year) article entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/\/articles\/index.php?term=pto-20010701-000023&page=1\" target=\"_blank\">Why I Hate Beauty<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p><p>It explains something I&#8217;ve suspected about Cape Cod employers but have never seen documented, i.e., why young, attractive people ALWAYS get hired, regardless of the job and their qualifications.<\/p><p>This is a tourist area and as a result, a slew of college students descend every summer to take low-paying jobs in restaurants, stores and motels, simply to be able to &#8220;hang out&#8221; with their pals on the Cape.<\/p><p>Being surrounded by these people, even for only part of the year, employers have developed a sense of ENTITLEMENT: they only want to see the young, the fit, the good-looking in their places of business.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a fact.  The psychologists say so.
