{"id":57,"date":"2004-02-02T18:34:53","date_gmt":"2004-02-02T23:34:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/wp\/?p=57"},"modified":"2004-02-02T18:34:53","modified_gmt":"2004-02-02T23:34:53","slug":"one-for-the-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/?p=57","title":{"rendered":"One for the Kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New Hampshire state Supreme Court <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local\/maine\/articles\/2004\/02\/02\/supreme_court_rejects_bortners_appeal\/\" target=\"_blank\">took a stand <\/a>today for abused and neglected kids.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nIn 2000, little 21-month-old Kassidy Bortner was beaten to death by her revolting mother&#8217;s even more revolting boyfriend, &#8220;hanging&#8221; Chad Evans.<br \/>\nHe got 28 years, and thanks to the same Supreme Court, prosecutors are now seeking to make it a sentence of 60 years to life.<br \/>\nEvans had a record of child abuse before he started his reign of terror against the tiny little girl.  His lovey-dovey girlfriend, Kassidy&#8217;s &#8220;mother&#8221;, Amanda Bortner, was convicted of two counts of child endangerment and sentenced to two years in the slammer .<br \/>\nToday, that sentence was upheld, largely because the court found &#8220;Mom of the Year&#8221; Amanda Bortner to be a liar in her statements to police and prosecutors.<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s hope the remainder of Amanda&#8217;s sentence is about as miserable as the NH penal system can make it, perhaps including a run-in with the female equivalent of Joseph L.
