{"id":402,"date":"2005-08-10T14:32:32","date_gmt":"2005-08-10T19:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/wp\/?p=402"},"modified":"2005-08-10T14:32:32","modified_gmt":"2005-08-10T19:32:32","slug":"gardeners-diary-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/?p=402","title":{"rendered":"Gardener&#8217;s Diary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I bought four pots of Proven Winners &#8220;Flying Colors&#8221; Diascia hybrid to replace the pansies in the window boxes at #11.<br \/>\nPeter decided they&#8217;d be better off here, though, so I&#8217;m integrating them into my flower boxes on the porch.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nThere were on sale and dry as a bone, but they had potential, even with the piles of dead stems that I pruned out by the handful.  After only a couple of days of watering, they are looking quite good.<br \/>\nThe flowers are a deep salmon pink, and the plants are very healthy, with lots of buds; they should bloom well into the Fall.<br \/>\nOne pot is on the front steps, one is on the porch railing, one is in a basket and I used the fourth to replace some spring annuals that had pretty much gone by.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ve had a VERY dry summer, and Mashpee has a water ban between 8 in the morning and 7 at night.  I don&#8217;t envy those gardeners who are trying to grow vegetables.<br \/>\nIn the bigger gardens, the coriopsis and the annuals (marigolds, petunias, a couple of the sweetpeas, zinnias) are holding on.  Everything else &#8211; larkspur, even the hostas &#8211; are done.<br \/>\nI added the Flickr zeitgeist widget to the Blog today, which is sort of fun, got the idea from Peter.
