{"id":202,"date":"2004-10-03T09:16:16","date_gmt":"2004-10-03T14:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/wp\/?p=202"},"modified":"2004-10-03T09:16:16","modified_gmt":"2004-10-03T14:16:16","slug":"cricket-wars-continued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/?p=202","title":{"rendered":"Cricket Wars &#8211; Continued"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Borrowing the main metaphor from the Presidential election campaign, I&#8217;ve talked before about my pre- and post-emptive battle with crickets.<br \/>\nLike the war in Iraq, I am far from &#8220;Mission Accomplished&#8221;.<br \/>\nAs in finding yesterday that I needed yet another line of defense.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nLacking a proper door between the bulkhead and the rest of the cellar, I&#8217;ve ducktaped a heavy sheet of plastic to the cement block walls.<br \/>\nThis failed to keep the critters out, so I set up sticky traps on both sides of the door frame to the bulkhead stairs.<br \/>\nThis didn&#8217;t protect the upstairs from crickets getting to the main part of the house, though (Bob found one, I found another a few days later), so I set up more sticky traps near the front door.<br \/>\nBut even that wasn&#8217;t enough.<br \/>\nYesterday, I laundered several items, including one that had been sitting outside for a couple of hours.<br \/>\nThen, when I went to take the laundry out of the washing machine, I found the carcass of a gigantic, drowned cricket in the bottom of the tub.<br \/>\nThus, the currently deployed lines of defense:<br \/>\n&#8211; Heavy plastic and duct tape<br \/>\n&#8211; Feet, preferably but not necessarily with shoes<br \/>\n&#8211; Sticky traps<br \/>\n&#8211; Washing machine<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Borrowing the main metaphor from the Presidential election campaign, I&#8217;ve talked before about my pre- and post-emptive battle with crickets.
