The latter included the Falmouth Chamber’s annual “Pops Goes the Summer” concert and fireworks, and watching my friend’s son play in a rock band at the last Hyannis street fair.<br \/>\nI wanted to check out something I’d read about last year, but let the day slip by in favor of staying at home and avoiding the traffic: there was a newspaper story last fall about some Cape residents who have a tradition of bidding the tourists goodbye from one of the many overpasses that span Route 6, the Mid-Cape highway.<br \/>\nMy sister-in-law, who lives in deep apple and foliage country, emailed that she’s happy fall is almost here. This is the one time of the year that I miss living in the Merrimack Valley, where maple trees haven’t been overrun by the ubiquitous oaks. We have enough water on the Cape to feed a respectable autumn display, but not enough of the right species to provide the same lavish colors that they get in the central and western part of the state.<br \/>\nSo, maybe I’ll get organized for one or two day trips for apple picking and cider.
