{"id":1233,"date":"2009-03-30T07:15:19","date_gmt":"2009-03-30T12:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/wp\/?p=1233"},"modified":"2009-03-30T07:15:19","modified_gmt":"2009-03-30T12:15:19","slug":"bad-charlotte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/?p=1233","title":{"rendered":"Bad Charlotte"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend, I happened to catch bits and pieces of the movie version of &#8220;Sex In the City&#8221;, which has made it to cable and which generally I liked when it first came out, and cringed once again at the scene where Charlotte tells Carrie that adopting a little girl from China facilitated her becoming pregnant.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m not the only one: there&#8217;s a terrific <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogher.com\/sex-and-city-bad-charlotte\" target=\"_blank\">blog<\/a> about the challenges of infertility that explains better than I could why some women found this plot twist so offensive.<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t know this, but the percentage of previously infertile women who become pregnant after adoption versus those who become pregnant without adoption is the same: only 3%.<br \/>\nSo, where the myth that &#8220;God is thanking you for taking care of one of his little ones&#8221; came from is a mystery.
