{"id":1053,"date":"2008-08-17T19:32:15","date_gmt":"2008-08-18T00:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/wp\/?p=1053"},"modified":"2008-08-17T19:32:15","modified_gmt":"2008-08-18T00:32:15","slug":"james-first-fish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecapeblog.com\/?p=1053","title":{"rendered":"James&#8217; First Fish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I bought a reel for the extra fishing rod that Robert won a couple of years ago and which he&#8217;s agreed to let James use.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a push-button type that we were told might be easier for James to use than Robert&#8217;s traditional spinning reel.<br \/>\nYesterday, we went to Waquoit Bay and a couple of spots on John&#8217;s Pond so he could practice his casting.  James did extremely well, and when he saw me today after Peter and I did the transfer station run, he asked if I could run him down to their beach on Santuit Pond so he could practice some more.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nJames has a deft hand and a natural feel for casting a line.  Still, there were other people on the beach, and even a motorboat, so I figured it wasn&#8217;t likely there would be any fish around.<br \/>\nI was wrong.<br \/>\nJames caught himself a fine sunfish and luckily, it was easy to extract the hook and release the little fellow.  I say &#8220;luckily&#8221; because of course, I didn&#8217;t have the tackle box or gloves.<br \/>\nBetween fishing and Robert&#8217;s sailing lessons this year, I&#8217;m hoping that the grandsons are feeling comfortable around the water and are starting to enjoy water-related sports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I bought a reel for the extra fishing rod that Robert won a couple of years ago and which he&#8217;s agreed to let James use.
