Done Planting

At the beginning of the season – with everything that needs to be done to get the gardens up to speed – I decided not to plant anything except for vegetables.

Didn’t work out that way this year. Like every other year, I found a few “had to haves”, like the butterfly bushes, one of which was pretty badly damaged with the tree work; the delphs; five small dappled sun/woodland shade bushes at half price; and this week, 100 tulip bulbs, purchased in part with a White Flower Farms gift certificate.

Most of the bulbs are in the back “U”, but I did put in a new tulip bed that extends the front corner garden. I’d forgotten how hard it is to dig a new bed.

Ron picked up mulch at Scenic Roots. He’s mowing the lawn now.

Good Work

Ron finished trimming and loaded up the truck again.  We brought the leaves to the sheep and met Emma’s sister in law, who could not have been nicer.

I planted about 80 tulip bulbs.

Fall is for Planting

It’s November and we’ve had our first snow, but the ground is soft, so I’m steadily finishing up the planting for this year.

Finished putting the five new shrubs in the ground today.

Raked up some leaves from yesterday’s trimming.

Ron and I brought a truckload of leaves to the sheep. They were in their shed – it’s been drizzling all day – and came out when they saw us, but as usual, the brown sheep was the most courageous.

Projects This Year

Ron and I ticked off the projects our contractors have done for us this year.

No wonder our heads are mush!

Tree Thinning

We have five, maybe six depending on how you look at it, fewer trees tonight.

Ron and I spent the afternoon trimming off the leaves and cutting the branches into four foot lengths.

I brought a truckload to the transfer station. We reloaded the truck with leaves for the sheep.

Stuff I pulled out of the woods.

We were able to clean up a lot of the woods. It’s nice to have everything open.

Nice Day, Water Pitcher Filters

We caught up on weekend chores.

Did the transfer station run after the Senior Center and in between, dropped off our payment at the CSMLP office in Barnstable village and took a drive to Dennis. Stopped at the Organic Farm and the Underground Cafe.

Put down the hay on the new garden and dug a few more holes for tulip bulbs. Talked with the Trinity Solar people. Made a train wreck for supper with kielbasa from the Organic Farm and organic carrots and potatoes.

Ron changed out the water pitcher filters this past weekend.
