3.3 Miles

We, mostly Ron, took care of laundry.

I made a cold fettuccine and vegetable dish for lunch.

It was rainy in the morning but by around 2:30, it cleared and was a pretty nice afternoon.

I couldn’t pry Ron out of his chair so walked by myself – an accomplishment.

Chatted briefly with one of the neighbors and his dog. Walked through the development to Old Barnstable to the high school.

Walked down 151 to Winslow Farms Drive.

3.6 Miles

Yesterday, Ron walked 2.6 and I walked 3.6, over 9,000 steps.

Feel fine this morning.

Ron volunteered to start cleaning the solar panels. The new squeegee works well.

We received our pandemic “gifts” from the feds today. Thank you, Grands.

I’ve been practicing crochet. Picked the wrong yarn for beginners, but it’s helping to distract me while we watch TV. I usually fall asleep anyway: bed by 8:30, up by 4:30. Seems to work.

It’s becoming more challenging to stay on the straight and narrow as far as “mindful” eating goes. For example, have had oatmeal for breakfast for the past 6 weeks: more nutritious but not as satisfying as bagels.

Still, 1200 calories can be surprising. I made a fine lunch today with fettucini, raw vegetables (carrots, cuke, sweet red pepper) and a peanut/tamari/mirin/soy sauce plus a little garlic and chili powder. Used up about 1/3 of the daily allotment and well worth it

Easter Sunday: Paper, Laundry, Fencing

In addition to our usual, we put 1/4 and 1/2 inch fencing around the last vegetable garden.

Ron and I walked about a mile and a half around the neighborhood. Nice day for it.

Pizza and Easter candy for supper, and did we ever enjoy it! Weightier today but well worth it.

I confirmed that there’s a layer of fine dust on the solar panels and experimented with ways to clean them. Think this is quite doable for us.

Transfer Station, Visit

Ron and I made the transfer station run yesterday, and afterwards, I visited Geri and Free.

Did about a mile and a half walk around the golf course. Very pleasant day for it.

I don’t understand the fussing about staying in place when one has internet access: boredom, loneliness, etc. There are so many resources available online.

Mulch and a Walk

Before it started raining, Ron and I walked around the neighborhood, a little under a mile and a half, including the field on the way back.

I was able to do some calisthenics this morning, a Babbel lesson and distributed the bag of wood chips around several bushes.

I also planted cauliflower and collard plants from Walmart.

Watched the PBS NOVA program “The Truth About Fat”.

Met step goal.

Hobbyhorse

Ron is fed up with my obsession with real estate.

I’m glad we have a yard and gardens. I’d rather we lived where we didn’t have to hear our neighbors but a small house with a yard is better than an apartment, even an upscale one with a view.

I can’t imagine what life would be like without the gardens. I enjoy them and value the exercise required to maintain them.

Further, I’m glad that we could keep Edgewater long enough so Peter and Bonnie could buy it.

I haven’t minded the so-called isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has shown that people most here are as self-centered and mean-spirited as I suspected them to be.

I’ve been keeping busy with other things, like reading, crosswords, watching videos and occasionally learning French with Babbel.

Mulch

Ron had the chipper working yesterday. I spread last year’s barrel around trees and bushes.

I also cut back the autumn clematis and dug out grass under the maple.

The MRTC had a virtual meeting last evening at which new officers were elected.

Ron is glum – again. We went to Walmart for his prescription, not the one he wanted, but it provided an opportunity to stock up on a few staples: dill weed, oatmeal, chips.

I also bought some weed killer for invasives that are spreading on the lawn. Sprayed them, leaving it overnight, we’ll see how things look tomorrow.

Made chocolate pudding and a stir fry with the pea shoots that are difficult to soften up.

Finally, I moved the sewing machine upstairs and finished some mending. Didn’t have as much as I thought, although I did fix a shopping bag, zigzagged stitched a pair of pajama bottoms and sewed a button on a pair of shorts. I decided to recycle several garments that are pretty much beyond repair.

Having the machine on the desk worked out very well, so I might leave it there.

We did a walk in the neighborhood that put me over goal for the day. I was a pain in the neck and wanted to take Old Barnstable back. Ron graciously agreed.

I did a small amount of yardwork, too, spread more wood chip mulch. Picked up Bonnie 6-packs at Walmart; those will go in tomorrow, which should complete the cold weather garden.

Renewed my subscription to MyHeritage at 10 percent off.

Taking a Break

Went to Aubuchon for a vacuum cleaner bag and found disposable nitrile gloves in stock!

Did three hours of yard work, mostly digging up grass that had encroached on the U. I cut down the last of the big grasses and set up a drying area for the clods, hoping to retrieve some loam.

Stopped the boston.com subscription. It’s ridiculous that this can’t be done online; I don’t care about City of Boston news; and besides, I’ve had a bad feeling for the Globe since the cowardly Spotlight “team” banned me from their website.

Ron sent me a recipe from the NYTimes for a umami pasta dish. He made it.

I’ve stopped renewing Ancestry and downloaded all the data for my account, but may keep MyHeritage.

Ron and I went for a nice walk through part of the Childs River Conservation Area. We ran into several inconsiderate idiots who were not wearing face masks. Quelle surprise.

I managed to get the screen back in the attic window. Opened both windows for ventilation.

Mostly a Chores Day

I made a pesto/feta/cauliflower crust pizza. Came out well.

We did the laundry, changed sheets and dropped off the recyclables to the transfer station.

They are limiting the number of cars for recycling, but we didn’t have to wait. By the time we were done, there was a line of 20 cars waiting, some backed up on the street.

We also picked up some produce at Pariah Dog Farm. I ordered produce from Oakdale Farm for delivery next Friday.

Planted kale and violas from Sprout Farm and red cabbage from Bonnie Plants. Also bought a swiss chard from Sprout but am letting it harden off a little more before planting.
