Rain, John Mayall

We were lucky enough to see blues legend John Mayall and his superhuman band (Rocky Athas, Greg Rzab, Jay Davenport) last night at Payomet. Poor Ron went early to get rush (“Rain or Shine”) seats; I made a mad, 2-hour dash from New Bedford to meet him. We got excellent seats, though. It was a sell-out crowd with nine SROs.

We decided independently that John Mayall and Ed Nowik must have been separated at birth. They could easily be brothers.

We were also lucky enough to get rain – about 3/4 inch – over the last two nights.

Rain, Baseball

We went to a Cape League game last night, Falmouth versus Chatham. We didn’t win the 50:50, but it was a fine Summer ritual nonetheless.

We got a good amount of rain last night, judging from the size of the pools in the top of the gazebo.

Poor Woman’s Giverny

Monet’s gardens were the subject of a beautiful article in a recent New York Times. I’ve been fighting the drought for weeks and as heartbreaking as it’s been, we still have some beautiful blooms in our yard. The Giverny article inspired me to try to capture some of our pretty spots before the flowers have gone by.

Good Day

I picked up more Rot-Stop and sprayed the tomatoes.

Checked the Falmouth Enterprise for articles and letters for O-F. I think I’m finally caught up with everyone’s published works.

Decided to take the “new” a/c apart to figure out where the vibration is coming from. It seems to be inside the cooling mechanism, so nothing really to be done about it. We switched a/c’s and that should work; the house is very comfortable. I enjoyed poking around the innards.

Grilled a steak, very poorly, but it was such a fine piece of meat that it was delicious anyway. Fortunately, I froze the other steak.

Repotted the impatiens.

Solved a problem for Jim Burns this morning.

Did a small shop at Roche Bros. Did laundry and changed the sheets. Ron and I put up the screen and along with Fluffles, we ate supper in the “gazebo”. It was really REALLY nice.

Missed out on several activities, including Word Camp at BU, the parade of boats in Plymouth, a “happening” at Cotuit Center for the Arts and a soiree at Castle Hill. One of these days, I want to get to Blithewold.

It’s Just My Personality

Yesterday was a bad day; hope it doesn’t get repeated.

It could have been worse, certainly, and maybe it’s the heat and humidity that’s getting to me.

Realized this morning that I left the sprinkler on all night.

This morning, I am ready to strangle Fluffles to shut him up!

And it’s only mid-July.

Demo Day, Date Night

Ron took us to dinner at the Chatham Kream ‘N Kone last night after a busy day and a very enjoyable visit to Munson Gallery (the oldest art gallery in the US) to see our friends Lillia and Herb’s opening.

We made a stop afterwards to the Job Lot across the street. Couldn’t find what we went in for (weights), but we did pick up two vintage Hilton silverplate demitasse spoons for a quarter each.

About twenty of us, including Lillia, Herb and I, had spent the morning (8:30 to 12:30) demonstrating across the street from Plymouth District Court in support of our friends the Pilgrim 14. The outcome of the hearing was what they wanted; there will be a trial in February.

Beat, beat, beat

Ridiculously busy day.

We just finished packing up the truck for a demonstration tomorrow at Plymouth district court.

We picked up and set up a used, very good condition grill for Peter.

Back to Edgewater to pay the power washing guys from CollegePro and sign off on the job.

Orientation at Highfield for house tour docents. Bought my ticket as well.

Ron had PT. I punted on Town Hall and New Bedford.

I fed the tomatoes, did some watering here and across the street.

Filled up the truck.

Runways

There is so much air traffic in the back yard that it looks like O’Hare: birds, butterflies, bees. A lot of fun to watch.

I fed the roses today as well as the container plants. Picked up a gorgeous begonia and hanger at Soares. Back yard looks pretty good right now.
