Although he never actually watched one of their broadcasts, Ron has been fuming for months about how bad Fox News is, especially since for a lot of people, it’s their only source of political reporting.

During the last Presidential election, I actually enjoyed watching Fox, especially when Brit Hume was the Special Report anchor.

So, the other night, I asked Ron to please watch Fox’s prime time news shows with me so that we could decide for ourselves if they are really as biased as the progressive media would have us believe.

Ron was right. I couldn’t believe how bad it was and how naive I’ve been about their influence. Good for Ron, and shame on me.

The energy audit happened today. We got the back and side yards mowed and filled up the truck again with detritus and branches. Good grief.

We had rain for a bit, but I was still able to work on both properties this week: weeding the vegetable garden and pruning trees here, pruning the rock garden and with Ron’s help, raking at Edgewater, and some heavy pruning today in the front yard at Dixon.

I cut back the Montauks in the front. Thank goodness for the hedge clippers that we grabbed from Edgewater. I treated them today with WD-40 and 3-in-one and they worked great.

For a while, I kicked myself for putting in yet another garden, the new one to the right of the driveway. It’ll be worth it, though, as it fills in, and the cleanup really wasn’t that bad.

Ron just noted that we still have buds on some of the rose bushes. He is absolutely correct. We had about three gorgeous Indian Summer days, but it’s back to freezing now.

That’s ice cream. That’s a spoon.

Yesterday, Ron and I went to Sasha’s Bat Mitzvah at Temple Reyim in Newton. Her theme was animals, so Ron thought that letting his buffalo wear his yarmulka was a nice touch.

We got home early enough to plant the spring bulbs I got on sale this week at Mahoney’s: daffodils, Winter Aconite, wood hyacinths, English Bluebells, a “Fat Tuesday” hyacinth mix and tulip Tarda.

I wanted to put the daffs in the newly cleared woods, but the ground is so embedded with roots that it would have been extremely difficult.

So, most of the bulbs went in the new garden in the front. I put a few on the yard side of the fence and planted the blue bells and wood hyacinth in front of the new rhodies.

Mike Brennan and Brian came out today to clear the West quadrant, including the cat briar and reachable dead branches. That part of the yard looks startlingly different. Mike used a 1950’s Gravely brush mower that chews up all kinds of undergrowth. I did some cleanup, too, and filled the truck.

Today, I planted an autumn clematis that we purchased from White Flower Farm, using a gift certificate that came with our Heritage Plantation membership.

We’re going to a Bat Mitzvah tomorrow, so Ron picked up a suit yesterday, and the tailor at Deer Crossing was able to alter it for him today. Great service.

Got a great deal on bulbs at Mahoney’s. Wanted to plant these today but ran out of daylight.

We are back on the warpath with the septic people, this time over bad grading. Our Board of Health agent offered to intercede on our behalf.

Ron and Fluffles seem to be having a quiet but intense dialogue. Something about iTunes.

We had 58 trick-or-treeters. Ron scared the heck out of a couple of little kids as The Alien. I think this is a great costume! He was delighted to have a chance to perform.
