Weekend

Seems like everyone at the office was looking forward to the end of the work week, including me.
Maybe it’s because Thursday turned out to be a work at home day, due to a power outage caused by a semi that had knocked down the power lines the night before. It was a beautiful day, and a gift to be able to spend it outside, or at least in a place where you could open the windows.

The commute was easy last night, and maybe with gas prices expected to go over $3/gallon, we won’t have big volumes of traffic. Tourism has been off the last two years, and as a full-time Cape resident, I keep hoping the so-called leaders on this island will wake up to that fact.
Our local Chambers of Commerce are for the most part a sorry bunch. As someone put it, we have plenty of leaders, but no leadership. Not that the residents themselves are a particularly progressive bunch: in a recent survey by the Cape Cod Commission, the quality of area public schools ranked at or near the bottom of the list of civic concerns.
I have no particular plans for the weekend, other than to pay some bills and give the house an overdue cleaning. One of my friends extended a tentative invite for Sunday dinner and another may or may not be available for a movie, depending on her work schedule.
I finished a big project at work, with a little minor cleanup once we started getting more user feedback. P, B and the kids are on their way back, so I’ll have Max duty for one more day, something I’ve actually come to enjoy.
