Hamas

So far, the fundamentalist political party/terrorist group Hamas has won 76 of 132 seats in the Palestinian legislature, which gives them control of the government.

The interpretation is that the voters were fed up with the ineffectiveness and corruption of the ruling party, Fatah.
It’s an interesting twist, not only for Palestinians, but for third world terrorist organizations generally. One of their own has now taken on the governance of a country – the ultimate switch from outsider to insider role, green baseball caps and all.
2006 is starting out as a bad year for incumbents, Canada being another “throw the bums out” example.
If this is a trend, I hope it lasts until at least the end of November.
