Bruschetta

There’s a gourmet produce market near where I live, and they have a back room which they don’t advertise, but one of the people who work there told me about.
All of the produce in the back room is a flat 49 cents; example: a melon that would have cost $2.50 if it were perfect is 49 cents.

I’ve been buying tomatoes there, and combining them with basil leaves from the porch garden to make bruschetta. Add a little oil, balsamic vinegar, sugar and pepper, and it makes a very palatable, inexpensive summer appetizer, or even a light supper side dish.
This trip, I also picked up a coffee cake for breakfast, half price; a honeydew that looks promising; and some peaches I don’t hold out much hope for, but what the heck, they might be edible if I soak them in brandy or Jack.
