Gardener’s Diary

It’s the last day of the Fair, and everyone in the Youth Building was ready for it to be over a long time ago.
Fortunately, we’ve had moderate weather for the latter part of the week, and the people and gardens are the better for it.

The flower boxes on the porch look pretty good, the thymes are blooming and to my surprise, the browned leaves on the violet recovered after a good watering.
I haven’t planted anything new for a while, but I’ve been kicking myself for not doing something easy in front of the fence, like daisies and daylilies. It wouldn’t have been especially pretty now, though, since both have gone by.
All in all, a boring week, not much to report except that (thanks to a neighbor and her dumpster) I finally cleaned up the old lumber from the back yard, which finally looks respectable enough for company, a garden, a shed, an above-ground pool. If I had the incentive to do any of it, which I don’t.
In addition to it being the last day of the Fair, it’s also the opening of the Woods Hole Film Festival and tonight, this town’s big Summer event happens, Mashpee Night at the Pops.
