Blood, Boston, B-bus, Baskin-Robbins

I didn’t realize how many tulips have come up this spring until I decided this evening to put down dry blood around each and every one of ’em.
This is to prevent squirrels from eating the flowers, which are now fat buds and will be out soon.
We don’t have as many squirrels as we used to, since one of the neighbors decided to capture them in his Have-A-Heart trap and release them to a spot across the highway. He’s gotten over 150.
Still, you can’t be too careful.

This is the first time in about 6 six years that I can remember NOT enjoying gardening.
It could be because I’ve been up for, oh, about 14 hours, 6 of which was spent commuting back and forth on public transportation to Boston on a consulting gig. And I did a TON of walking today, for reasons I’ll explain below.
This was the first day at the client’s office and, as often happens, the computer that was supposed to be set up, wasn’t.
So, I hung out for a 2:00 meeting and got to leave early. Unfortunately, the next train wouldn’t be leaving for another hour and a half, so fortunately, I got to spend some time sightseeing on Charles Street and the Common, got a view of the tulips in the Public Garden as well.
Boston is way ahead of the Cape, the flowering trees are at peak, and the homeowners on Beacon Hill already have planted their gorgeous flower boxes. Gave some great ideas for ours, got to cram ’em with ivy and interesting ground covers.
Walked from the office to Coolidge Corner, a perpetually delightful area where, incredibly, everyone was frowning deeply, perhaps feeling the ill effects of Passover and already too much matzo.
I had a stressful conversation with the people at the Cape B-Bus today about my reservation tomorrow morning, but they told me someone would be in the office ’till 8 to answer any questions.
So, this evening, I got to talk with a delightful, happy, patient lady who answered all my questions, retrieved my ID number for me, and informed me that tomorrow, I’ll be arriving early enough in Hyannis not only to be on time for my presentation, but to attend the breakfast and the keynote speech.
On the way home, harboring a yen for cherry ice cream, I stopped at the Baskin-Robbins on MacArthur Boulevard and picked up some Winter White Chocolate. Too bad, they won’t be serving cones until this Sunday, so I was forced to buy a whole quart. Heh heh.
And that was my day. How about yours?
