So, Pope Benedict XVI has not yet repudiated the assinine, paranoid comments he made back in 2002 that the reports of child sexual abuse by priests in the American press were really just anti-Catholic propaganda:
“In the United States, there is constant news on this topic…one comes to the conclusion that it is intentional, manipulated – that there is a desire to discredit the church.”
This week, Monsignor Scicluna, promoter of justice at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was quoted in the New York Times as explaining away the issue of child sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests thusly: “you always link this tragedy to lack of clear doctrine.”
“Lack of clear doctrine”. What the HECK is that supposed to mean? That there’s no “clear doctrine” in the Catholic Church that molesting little kids is sinful? Or that criminals should be punished, not rewarded with cushy jobs at the Vatican?
What kind of religion preaches THAT kind of a message?
And people are gullible enough (or, more likely, selfish enough to want to protect their personal little “pie in the sky when you die”) that they BUY this stuff?
