Clear Today, Snow Tomorrow

Misery, thy name is Mashpee.
Only kidding.
Yesterday, my neighbors and I dug out of the 36 inch+ Blizzard of 2005, the worst in 100 years of recorded history on Cape Cod.
I guess there’s comfort in assuming that we won’t get another one like this for another 100 years.

Spent yesterday morning digging out 3 driveways, including my own, only to find that when I went out for an errand later in the day, I needed to do yet more digging to get my car back IN.
This morning, I waded through over-the-knee-high snow to clear the dryer vent at the back of the house, the last safety item to be dealt with.
In spite of all the excellent, accurate weather forecasts, I was ill-prepared for this storm.
Oh, sure, the shovels were in place, there was plenty of milk and bread, the cell and “regular” non-cordless phones were available, and I had dozens of candles and a bag of ice melt. Still, I forgot to refill a prescription, and the one battery-operated radio was useless in spite of the piles of AA, A, C- and D-cells which I’d stocked up – the radio only takes a 9-volt. Duh.
It’s funny, in spite of the enormous piles of snow, little things can make you feel “back to normal”. For example, it made me happy this morning to be able to go out on my deck, which I’d more or less cleared yesterday.
They say it’s supposed to snow again tomorrow and Thursday, then we get much milder weather next week, the January thaw, a little late this year, but welcome just the same.
