The Blizzard of 2005

They showed hurricane warning flags in Chatham last night, and from the sound of the wind here, they were right to do so.

The snow has piled into substantial drifts, and is expected to continue through the day, leaving totals of 2 feet or more.
Declaring a state of emergency, the Governor has asked everyone to stay off the roads. Microsoft FINALLY cancelled the training session scheduled for today in Waltham – received their email a few minutes ago. Hope no one was dumb enough to try to make it.
The sensible folk I know here on Cape stocked up yesterday and are resigned to another 12 or so miserable hours of hunkering down. No one, except maybe children, looks forward to a storm like this one.
Sunrise will happen in about an hour. We lost power, briefly, only once last night, about 20 minutes ago, in fact. The wind is frighteningly strong, sounds like it could easily blow out the windows and knock down trees. We are praying for the miracle of no lengthy power loss.
I’ve been keeping the good thought for the plow operators, the nurses and EMTs, the firefighters, National Guardsmen, electric company linemen – everyone whose professional duty requires them to confront these conditions to keep the rest of us safe and comfortable.
If it weren’t for the grandkids – and my DIL, who needs to live close to her parents a few miles West of here – I’d get the h* out of the cranky, low economic growth rate, politically out of favor, foul weather Northeast.
