Cost of Living

I know a lot of Cape Codders who are thinking or at least dreaming about moving further South.
And by South, I don’t mean Rhode Island.

Sick of the high cost of living and the absence of jobs, these IT professionals have mentioned places like Sarasota, FL and Beaufort, SC.
Personally, it would be a stretch for me to live in a state that either won the election for Bush or lost the primary for McCain.
Still, out of curiosity, when I ran across a neat web app that shows differences in cost of living, I ran a comparison on Boston versus Hilton Head. I picked Hilton Head because as beautiful as people say it is, I assumed it would be as ridiculously outside the means of average people as living around here has become.
Boy, was I wrong.
To maintain the same purchasing power,
a salary of $ 65,000 in Boston MA
needs to be $48,939.89 in Hilton Head Island SC
In going from Boston MA to Hilton Head Island SC
