3 Weekends to Labor Day

Labor Day is late this year, but it still feels like Summer is winding down. Soon it will be time for “the last corn, the last swim, the last blueberries.”

It behooved us in the Tech industry to make hay while the sun shines, and just about everyone has been working this season, which has made for dull if financially solvent boys and girls.
Still, there’s been time for the occasional band concert, walk on the beach and (for the adventurous others) kayaking.
I haven’t seen the grandkids nearly as often as I’d hoped this summer: they’ve been busy and I’ve had a regular Saturday gig doing chambermaiding in Dennisport. Happily, the oldest is available this weekend, so I’m hoping we can have a little fun before we lose the rest of the Summer.
I did make it a point not to miss occasions that have become Summer staples, like the vegetarian buffet at Coonamessett Farms, the Barnstable County Fair, the Melody Tent, Mashpee Night at the Pops and the town fireworks, and I did try a couple of new things, like the Cape Verdean festival in Onset and the Thursday night Hyannis Street Fairs.
There were some nice surprises, too, like running into a former coworker at one of the concerts at Nauset Beach, and finding the Wequassett Inn in Chatham.
Foolishly, I agreed to be a “team leader” for the Summer capper, the Falmouth “Pops Goes the Summer” on Labor Day weekend, across the street at the Fairgrounds.
I’ve neglected the User Group, although some of us are planning to attend a Microsoft training session in Providence next Tuesday.
Opportunities missed include Brigadoon at the College Light Opera Company, the Falmouth Fourth of July fireworks, and tea in Julia’s garden at the Falmouth Historical Society.
Well, maybe next year.
